Jolene - Mindy Smith's version
k Oh wow! Question Karen!! OK so what's with "Jolene"? I have a couple of younger singers who do it but hate what I have which is the traditional Dolly Parton version. They keep saying "this doesn't sound right". So is this a modern re-release of the classic? And what CDG should I get? thanks- Bill
I'll have to see what manu put it out - it is a fantastic version of a great song. I could never stomach the DP version and when M. Smith brought it out I was thrilled. She plays in Seattle occasionally and I have seen her - amazing young female songerwriter musician. I'll have to drag out my CDG case and find it... I'll PM you when I have the manu.

Monday Night was only about 8 singers so I was able to sing more than I normally do.
Your Man - Josh Turner
Policy of Truth - Depeche Mode
Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Beginnings - Chicago
Does Fort Worth (ever cross your mind) - George Strait
Our House - Crosby Stills Nash & Young
One For My Baby - Frank Sinatra (one of my favorite closing songs)

I've heard of Aussie Crawl (or Australian Crawl), but I haven't heard them yet.
And while we're on the subject of Australian pop--do you know if any of Daryl Braithwaite's stuff is available for karaoke? "Higher than Hope" was a minor hit here in the US (I got the CD and love it so much that I bought some of his other CD's), but AFAIK it's not available for karaoke. Also some of the songs he did w/Sherbet in the '80s, when they were known as the Sherbs, got some airplay here. You'd think we'd be able to find SOME of it for karaoke anyway...

I haven't heard Amie in a long time. One of my favorite songs. Not many people can pull that one off, great choice.

I hope it was the long version. I heard someone sing it once and it was the short version. (I hate when record companies put out shortened version of songs--that's one of my biggest pet peeves!)

Last night, as I said on another thread, ericlater and his wife were in the area and we went to 2 karaoke places. I'll let him give you the list of songs he sang, and I'll give you mine.
Here's what I sang at the first place we went:
"Fins"-Jimmy Buffett
"Where Have All the Cowboys Gone"-Paula Cole
"Shambala"-Three Dog Night
"Town Without Pity"-Gene Pitney
"Shadows of the Night"-Pat Benatar
And at the 2nd place where we went:
"Yellow River"-Christie
"1-2-3"-Gloria Estefan
(an unusually crowded night for this place, so we didn't get as many songs in)

I think Amie is a favorite of just about everyone because the crowd really gets into it and I'll be dancing and bouncing around people will be singing and smiling. And then thats when I realize, I am a nut.
Laura, the tag of the song is short but that ok, for me its the hardest part of the song.

I guess I'll try to remember what I sang. It was a pleasure hearing Laura sing "Town Without Pity"
I sang:
"I'm Gonna Be Strong" - Gene Pitney
"Red Red Wine" - UB40
'Till Then" - Classics
"Tonight Could Be The Night" - Velvets
"Cara Mia" - Jay And The Americans
"Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" - Joe Nichols
I found it interesting that Laura sang a Three Dog Night tune at the first venue we attended and at the next venue someone else sang Joy To The World. I rarely hear Three Dog and last night we heard two of their songs. They're good numbers for karaoke.

You also sang "My Maria" by Brooks & Dunn (remember, I asked you to do that one) at the first place we went to.
I heard someone sing "Mama Told Me Not to Come" once, and I've heard "Never Been to Spain" a few times. I'm trying to think if there were any others...I think I may have heard "Joy to the World" a few times for karaoke before Fri. night, but I can't remember for sure. That guy that sang it Fri. night was quite good, and the crowd enjoyed it. The crowd at the other place liked "Shambala" when I did it also. You're right, those are good songs for karaoke.
Eric, I don't remember having heard "Till Then" before (I'm not even sure I've heard the original version, much less for karaoke), but that one went over really big. You got a few people dancing, too!
