I have been trying to put together some music to play at my daughter’s wedding reception Friday.  I find that my granddaughter has several CD’s with some good songs.  Rather than drive the 20+ miles up there and back, I thought she could just email them to me. True it would take some time, but would save on the gas, which cost me $3.74 a gallon yesterday.    Is there any way to do this?  She emails them to me, but they don’t open correctly and I’m not able to rip them into mp3 and mcg files.  I even tried doing it myself, and just emailing them to my own mailbox, but it just doesn’t work.  Any one know of a way to do this?

Just a suggestion,

As a last resort, you and you daughter could install (Free Trial)
Logmein Rescue. You log in, type in her name and click get Pin Code.
Give your daughter the Pin Code (Phone/Text or Email).
She logs in, Bring up the Help ticket, types in your unique Pin Code.
When your daughter is Logged in she shows up on your computer.
Click on her computer, Click Start... You Now Have Remote Control of Her Computer.
Simply click Send, navigate to Her files and send!

Kind Regards,
sw00000p

She has to rip to mp3's first. If she is familiar with FTP and could upload I would provide you with web space and then you could download them.

So spend the $15 or so on gas, go up and get the CDs yourself, and save yourself a LOT of hassle, headaches, & frustration!

Are you sure your granddaughter knows how to rip CDs properly so they will sund good on a PA system.  Most people think a rip is a rip, but there are many factors that can cause the song to sound like crap on a PA (bit rate being the most important).

Even if she gets a good rip, the files could get corrupted in the email process (unlikely, but possible).

And come on, $15-$20 in gas?????  Isn't your daughter worth it????

I don't think it's fair for anyone to say, "Isn't your daughter worth it."
Some of us have to buget, juggle and struggle certain times of year to get buy.
For us, the price of gas is Insane. If BlueRose doesn't spend money for the
Highest quality CD or save gas, Doesn't Mean She Loves Her Daughter Any Less!
Some of us don't own Websites or Business!

Lighten Up,

Assuming that she can rip the CD.
I recommend that you use YouSendit.

http://www.yousendit.com/

This way the file can be as large as she want it to be (max 100mb)
Zip the 2 files before sending them. If not send in 2 seperate files in 2 batches.

You hit the nail on the head with the budgeting comment.  I am still off on medical and get a paltry $27 a week after everything is taken out. I do get SS, but that just barely covers the rent.  If it wasn’t for Johnny buying the original karaoke setup on payments, I’m not sure what I would do.  Obviously I have to watch every penny right now, it’s not a matter of “isn’t my daughter worth it!”  Neither my daughter, (not the one getting married) or my granddaughter know anything about ripping CD’s, so I am just going to go up and get them this morning.  Thank you all for your input, especially Karyoker who went above and beyond trying to help.

Geez Twan, she was asking for help not a lecture.

Of course her daughter is worth it!

Blue Rose, how many songs are you talking about? PM Me with what you are looking for perhaps I can help you. If you have the songs that were emailed to you perhaps I can convert them to MP3 and send them back to you.

Let me know if I can help

If you do $15-$20 3 times a week, you're talking a lot of money. I know the price of fuel has changed the way I do things. I'd be looking for other ways, too. Gas (and I use diesel, which is almost $5/gal here now) is a major budget consideration for a lot of people.

If she can rip to Windows media player, you can send them that way.

I guess this is one reason I wont be joining you on the dark side...an apology is appropriate

free email (yahoo, msn, etc) has 10mb limits... that can be 1 or two songs sent at a TIME... with up to full GIG of storage, it shouldn't be a problem to mail them that way!

Sorry, consider me a $*&#@*#%, but I am not apologizing for my comment.  If I offend, oh well.  I have seen the poorest of poor, and they seem to make it by monthly on an amount of money that most familys spend on eating out for 1 meal.  How much do we all spend on internet, cell phone, Cable/satellite tv, ect.

Yes times are tight, but if they are tight, there are a lot of things we can do without.  And yes gas prices are high here, but look at the price that other countries are paying, and have been paying for years and years.  I myself feel very luck that I am only spend $3.30 for a gallon of gas.

http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/01/news/in ... 2008050109
rank  country          price/gallon
1.   Bosnia-Herzegovina   $10.86
2. Eritrea $9.58
3. Norway $8.73
4. United Kingdom $8.38
5. Netherlands $8.37
6. Monaco $8.31
7. Iceland $8.28
8. Belgium $8.22
9. France $8.07
10. Germany $7.86
111. United States $3.45

Sorry for the rant but I am getting really tired of people complaing about the price of gasoline.

the ratio of what other places pay for gasoline is irrelevant... we as a country drive FAR further for NORMAL means, and thanks to our wonderful capitalistic society, we have stores that compete with each other for our business, rather than us facing bread lines, etc.

We don't have NEAR the commuter intervention that say London does...

Twansenne, I wasn’t totally offended by your post, I can see where a person might jump to the conclusion I was being stingy or cheap.  That was not the case.  I knew I had to go 240 miles round trip for the wedding, which is a tank of gas with my car, or converted to dollars and cents, a little over $40.  It would have taken me about a quarter of a tank to go get the CD’s, which is what I finally did.  I do thank each and every one of you for your efforts to help me out.   Everything turned out fine, we had plenty of music and my daughter is now very happily married. I posted a few wedding pics in The  Lounge forum. I think the biggest surprise for my daughter was his wedding gift to her, a 2004 Buick (something or other) with just over 50K miles on it.  I would have loved to have seen her face when he presented it to her.
