What songs sung today will be sung in karaoke 20 years from now? New York New York is an obvious one. Others? What songs will get into the Karaoke Hall of Fame Songbook?

New York New York is the first song that came to mind.
I'd say Sweet Caroline, Margaritaville, Pretty Woman, I got you Babe, I will Always Love You, and Summer nights. Of course Elvis and The Beatles songs too, I can't decide which ones.
Happy Birthday - that's a given.

It really depends on the area, I think. I haven't heard New York New York *ever* in my two-state area, yet I hear "My Way" all the time. Sweet Caroline I hear everywhere. Most of the rest on Babs list don't make my top 10.
From my limited perspective of 3 years in the Midwest and trips to a few places:
Black Velvet
Crazy
The Dance
Folsom Prison Blues
Goodbye Earl
My Way
Piano Man
Picture
Sweet Caroline
You Never Even Called Me By My Name
Songs of the last 5 years which have a chance around here:
Before He Cheats
Kerosene
Paint Me A Birmingham
Redneck Woman
Rockstar
Suds In The Bucket

Yeah I tend to agree with mcky, New York New York hasn't been done at my shows in ages.
Sweet Caroline, Margaritaville, Pretty Woman, I got you Babe, I will Always Love You, and Summer nights out of these, I would pull out Margaritaville & I Will Always Love You, but the other 4 tend to get done pretty regular. Van Halen version of Pretty Woman moreso over the Roy Orbision version however.
The rest of Mcky's list I will agree with fully.

In addition to what Lonnie has added...
Mony Mony (Tommy James or Billy Idol)
Almost ANY Billy Joel or Elton John, and Bob Segar is a sure win!
Silent Lucidity
White Wedding
Just about ANY Eagles song!

I remember making the bold prediction that Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry" was destined to be a karaoke classic because it was being sung so much in my room. Guess what. It's hardly been sung since.
So much for my crystal ball.
I'll try another one. Maybe I can jinx it with a prediction, and the same thing will happen to it. Which would also be cool.
Sugarland - "Stay". It's popped up a lot among forum KJs as sung a lot, so I don't think my place is unique.
A couple of fairly non-standard things that also seem to be common to the lists that I've seen up, so I know that they aren't just particular to my room:
Sublime - "Santeria"
4 Non-Blondes - "What's Up?"
And I don't think "Friends In Low Places" has been mentioned yet. We're not talking good karaoke classics, right? It would definitely qualify then.
Edit: Jam you beat me to it.

Yes, sigh, they do. But two of the three don't exist in my show...

Guess what. It's hardly been sung since. Yeah I didn't see that one having any kind of staying power. I have yet to hear anyone do it. Most of the newer stuff, unless it is just really good, isn't going to last more than a couple to a few months max. Quote: Sugarland - "Stay". I don't hear it overly done at all, but is a couple times a week at least. Quote: Sublime - "Santeria" 4 Non-Blondes - "What's Up?"
Agree with both!

This is just in my room, but the two "clean" songs that I can pretty much count on getting the question "Has it been sung yet" every night are "Santeria" and "Stay".
The cool thing about "Stay" is that it's not very long for a ballad.
With "Picture" I don't get the question. It's just "We want to do it too".

purple rain is a classic but whether you could call it classic karaoke is another thing.
I'm a believer (both versions)
and over here probably the most asked for song karaoke, or requested when we gig is the gambler

How about The Devil Went Down to Georgia? It's not sung as frequently now, but I think it is classic and unique enough that it will be sung for quite awhile.
I Saw Her Standing There , Beatles
These Boots Are Made for Walking
Me and Bobby McGee, Janis Joplin
Let's Stay Together, Al Green
My Girl, Tempations
Redneck Woman...maybe?
duets
Cruisin'
Always

"Me and Bobbie McGee" and "These Boots were made for Walkin" for sure !
I don't think I've ever had "Stay" sung. Isn't that odd.
I think your right about "Crazy" being a good candidate.
Now if your talking seasonal: Santa Baby, Ghostbusters, Monster mash
I didn't want to admit it - but yeah - American Pie, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, Friends in Low Places and You never call me by my Name.

Never sung here at all. Have seen it once or twice in my 3 years of frequent karaoke-ing. Contrast that with Sweet Caroline and Folsom Prison BLues at least a hundred times. Quote: These Boots Are Made for Walking
Missed that one -- it is a definite classic. Quote: Me and Bobby McGee, Janis Joplin Let's Stay Together, Al Green My Girl, Tempations Redneck Woman...maybe?
Redneck Woman is on my "stick around another 5 years and it is a classic" list.

One forehead smacker for us- "I love this Bar"...
I think the only 'current' songs that will be classics are country. "Alchohol", "Tequila Makes her Clothes Fall Off", "Online","Suds in the Bucket", "Before He Cheats", etc...
The only rock I can see surviving is maybe Daughtry, Nickleback, and the perennial rockers like Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, The Stones, etc.
Plus, much to the hatred of some, 80's hair bands seem to be more popular than ever! Long live Poison, Bon Jovi, and Cinderella!!!

"Every Rose Has It's Thorn" sure seems to be everywhere and not going away. Your other ones are done some even in my non country room, with "Bar" and "Before" done excessively.
I've got some of the ladies to back off of "Before" by just telling them that it's overdone, and if they are looking for a good crowd response to pick something else.

Add that one to my classics list, for sure. It isn't done much in my country area, but I hear it everywhere else I go.

Since Brett Michaels was on Nashville Star, I hear more guys in cowboy hats doing that and/or "Wanted Dead or Alive"....
And it isn't done as much anymore, but, Hotel California....

It's an interesting question, particularly when there is little consensus as to what are the most popular songs being sung currently.
I would hope that few Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond or Elvis songs last, paticularly: New York, New York; My Way; Sweet Caroline. The first two performers, IMHO, can't even be identified with a genre other than, perhaps, "easy listening"!
From my experience in S Fl, I'd guess the following will still be regularly sung here ten years from now:
Crazy
Devil Went Down To Georgia
Summer Nights
I Got You, Babe
Redneck Woman
Wanted, Dead Or Alive
Proud Mary
I Love Rock N Roll
Old Time Rock N Roll
Turn The Page
Rock N Roll All Night
Sweet Home Alabama
Keep Your Hands To Yourself
Piano Man
Fallin'
Friends In Low Places
All My Ex's Live In Texas
Family Tradition
You Never Even Called Me By My Name
An American Trilogy
Can't Help Fallin'
Hey Good Lookin'
Your Cheatin' Heart
Mack The Knife
Islands In The Stream
It's A Man's Man's Man's World
Shout
Taxi
Cat's In The Cradle
Bad Bad Leroy Brown
Brown-eyed Girl
Riders In The Sky
Seven Bridges Road
Sweet Home Chicago
That's Life
