Right, because we all know country music doesn't have any songs like that. Gimme a break, I could list a dozen reasons why I don't like much country music and most of them would have to do with lyrical content. If you can't sing it or prefer not to, just leave it at that, no need to be insulting. Rudy.[/quote]

I am so with you on this VBU, what a pretentious thing for the mousekateer to say....jeez

Well, I'd jump in here..but we had ZERO singers on Friday night...not much of a crowd for anything else either.  We had a huge storm here in Northern/Mid Michigan and I was hoping it would bring out the crowd...well it didn't, that's for sure.  I had my groupies..about 10-15 friends showed up and we hung out and have a few cocktails, listened to some good music and there was a few straglers at the bar, NOONE else even came in the door.  The dinner crowd was non-existant as well, so it was a crap night all the way around.  Oh well, there is always this weekend....:)

Hhahahaah, the only Karaoke request I got was, "do you have any ICP karaoke"  So, Bill....I noticed you had "ICP" on your list....please tell me where you can get a ICP song?!?!?!  I have a few juggalos (including myself) that would be certainly down with the clowns.  I have searched and found nothing/nowhere.  Thanks, MrD

I bought "Homiez" at the Selectatrack website. It's not SBI but some other brand that I can't remember without the Karaoke computer up (and it's not right now). But a pretty good rendition.

It's the only ICP track I've found. But a good one if the room can handle the language. The place sings the chorus right along with the singer. So it's a "sing-a-long". Of a different type than usual.

Nice diversity there Randy J.

I had a couple of Colbie Caillet songs "piggyback"  on a CDG I bought for other things, and one or the other gets sung just about every night by someone. I would never have added them consciously. Just mentioning because I saw one on your list.

Thanks for posting and bumping the thread. I would like to see it kept alive. I'm kind of green at this and it's informative to me.

Hi Bill

Interesting you mention Colbie Callet. That song Bubbly was sung by a woman who's been at karaoke for a year, is one of those singers with a good voice, but is very timid with the mic... the whole time you're listening, you wish she would SING LOUDER

Maybe most KJs just assume she's one of those people where you turn up the mic and they back off their voice. What's the point of risking feedback, right??

So here I am, haven't KJ'd more than 10 times... I turn the mic WAY HOT. She looks at me for a sec, kinda surprised at hearing her own voice over the PA, and continues on... and then the confidence comes out. She nailed the song and got thunderous applause!

Of course I was riding the mic in case of feedback. None. It's a rush to have been at the controls when she came out of her shell. Woo hoo!  :)

Okay, finally remembering to do this! Interestingly, this is a tiny tavern in a tiny town - Hit hard by the economy as most commute to jobs outside of town and it's nine miles to the connecting highway, so it's been tougher on them than most. Owner said it was pretty quiet all week but about 8:30 crowd rolled in. Not usually a country show but looking at the slips, it was a big country night tonight. Glad to hear some of the new stuff sung. Went over to accommodate but didn't start until 30 minutes after I would normally.

Settle for Slowdown
God Bless Texas
Grandpa
Purple Rain
Here for the Party
Hillbilly Deluxe
I'll Be There For You
Red Neck Woman
Livin' on a Prayer

Lily Allen's "Smile" Karen? If so I'm gonna guess it was the same singer who sung "Bleeding Love" and "Bubbly".

This is just a blatant bump of an old thread back to page 1 to hopefully keep it going with contributions from others. But I'll start with a few comments about changes in my home room.

1. I used to actively steer it towards contemporary non-country (not because I don't like country, but because the area is already saturated with it) but since joining the forum I've let it chart it's own course. And that has definitely been more country.

2. Although there are still some, the novelty of doing an explicit language song just to get attention has pretty much passed. There are much fewer of them in a given night.

3. I've lost some talented singers for unrelated reasons. My top rapper is currently incarcerated. One of the best female regulars, who I could count on for her room-pleasing song selection as well as her superb voice, got into a fight with one of the owner's daughters (not about karaoke) and has been 86ed.

Room was typical Thursday busy normal with most rounds in the upper teens. The first round was under 10 and there was one over 20.

grandpa
joe diffie - Third rock from the sun
bless the broken road (Me. The room started quiet and country. I go with the flow.)

dan seals - bop
josh turner - frecracker

I like the way some of your people think, Bill.

My Thursday night was saturated with country last night. It's usually fairly light, but EVERYBODY was singing it last night. The only truly interesting song anyone did was Howie Day's "Collide," which I think is the first time anyone's done that at one of my shows. The rest was pretty standard country fare, with a few rock songs mixed in.

I'll have to keep track of my show Tuesday night and post here. That show is WAY more experimental, because it's a very "indie rock" crowd.

Our rooms can be very similar Babs. Hemorrhage, Wrong Way, Bodies, Mother, No Air, all done in my place regularly too. Just not last night. Also Bleeding (Bleeding Love maybe?) and Apologies (All Apologies I'm guessing?), if the same songs, also done a lot.

One of the things I've learned from this forum is that my room is far from unique. I used to think that we were blazing new ground and doing something totally different than any other karaoke room. And we are... but just for for my local area.

As promised, here's my Tuesday night show's list. As I mentioned elsewhere, my crowd doesn't usually get started until later, though this was an unusual night as I didn't have my first singer until 11PM! 42 songs between 11-2:15.

Remy Zero – Save Me (sung by me)
Cheap Trick – Surrender
Amy Winehouse – Rehab
Radiohead – Paranoid Android
Ben Folds – Rockin the Suburbs
Coldplay – Yellow
Concrete Blonde – Joey
Talking Heads – Once In a Lifetime
Don McLean – American Pie
Rodney Carrington – Letter to My Pen!s
Modest Mouse – Float On
Pretenders – Don’t Get Me Wrong
Evanescence – My Immortal
Rufus and Chaka – Ain’t Nobody
Fleetwood Mac – Silver Springs
Queen – Bicycle Race
The Jam – That’s Entertainment
Jane’s Addiction – Jane Says
Spin Doctors – Two Princes
Elvis Costello – Radio Radio
Heart – Barracuda
Alicia Keys – If I Ain’t Got You
Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss – Whiskey Lullaby
James Taylor – Carolina In My Mind
Bill Withers – Ain’t No Sunshine
Spinners – I’ll Be Around
Third Eye Blind – Semi-Charmed Life
Garbage – Queer
Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out
Stevie Ray Vaughan – Pride and Joy
The Darkness – I Believe In a Thing Called Love
Melissa Etheridge – I’m the Only One
Rufus Wainwright – Hallelujah
Eddy Grant – Electric Avenue
Elton John – Bennie and the Jets
Steel Dragon – We All Die Young (sung by me)
Pretenders – Brass In Pocket
Etta James – At Last
Bjork – It’s Oh So Quiet
Three Dog Night – Never Been to Spain
Barenaked Ladies – Get In Line
USA for Africa – We Are the World

With the last song, everybody was having a great time at the end, so I decided to bring them all up for one last song together. They loved it!

Here's why this thread is interesting. Your list is quite a bit different than mine or the others. I don't know if it's because you are in a different area of the country or just have a different group, but thanks for taking the time to put it up DJ Swirl.

We have some similarities though. "My Immortal" and "I'm The Only One"... constant recurrents in my place. And Bjork... I thought I had the only room that would do that stuff.
