At this point I would get another hard drive and back up the first.

Depending upon the number of tracks you have I would consider shifting to a computer format. Burning takes software such as Cdr-Win or Cd  Clone. It is just as time consuming as ripping.

Hopefully you had insurance to replace the cd's.

Oh man, I'm so sorry!

to be honest, you CAN'T legally do it. You have no proof of ownership on the cds!

That's why I keep my original discs at home, and take the computer out. And yes, that's not technically legal.

I do feel your pain. I had a TON of Pioneer DVDs stolen from me a few years ago!

Depends on what format the files on the PC are.  Post back with the file format and someone should be able to assist.

alison67,

SORRY  for your Loss!
Try to make the best of a bad situation.
Let See! Your Van has the Business/Disc insurance Right?
Then as I recall...
THEY WERE STOLEN FROM THE VAN!
FIX THE "MOT"

Just Trying To Help because You Need Those Originals!

Kind Regards,

As said above - get another hard drive and make a backup of your digital files NOW!  Like 100% serious - you currently have just 1 copy of all your data and that is a horrible situation to be in.

Also, as said above - if you are worried about the legal side - you now have 100's of MP3/MP3+G that you can't proove you have the right to.  Sucky, but hey.

Now, as for copying - you now have the ability to make up your own CD's/Playlists as you're working digitally.  Consider staying digital?

MOT is an inspection process which vehicles in the UK MUST pass or they're not allowed on the road.  Best not travel down that path or she'll get nailed for sure when they compare reports.

I definitely feel for ya Alison, I had a whole case of SC originals stolen several years ago, many which were out of print (can you say OUCH!).  Best plan, IMO, is to do a backup of your hard drive as well as convert those files and burn back to disc.  Since they were original discs that were stolen make sure you file a police report as well in case industry officials (whoever they are in the UK) happen to come along so you can show proof of possession before they were stolen.

When you say 'shortening my songs' you mean a recording of your song. And if that is the case, just load the song back to any recording program and cut out the intro and the outro.
You may want to try Audacity to help you get the task done.
