you would probably be better asking the folks at computhost's forum if the pc in question is adequate enough to run the software. There's enough bells and whistles in it for MY opjnion to say it'w questionable with that low of a processor.

Personally, I'd recommend the low route and go with winamp and it's plugins. I'd go with the LOWER 2.8x winamp version... just because with the lower processor, you want to keep it as simple as possible.

I don't use a fancy soundcard, but instead go with USB out to my USB device which turns the output into an RCA connection. ((Zzounds has a Behrenger device for under $30 that's similar in nature). BUT check it out first... hook it up to the mixer and see what it sounds like!. No since buying a bunch of stuff when you have it there now in place.

Although they say an intel P4  1.2 plus processor they also say that lesser systems will work.  512 ram is the reckommended RAM.  XP/Vista 32 bit operating system.
I am running a 1.86 processor with 512 ram with vista home basic without any problems.

Hi Danny,
I brought the computer in to work tonight to have it looked at by a coworker ,and the good news is that we found it is a 1.44 gig processor,1 gig of ram,and a pentium 4.I have spent a fortune on computers in my life and was hoping to use this old one after replacing the hard drive, and the video card (for useing two monitors I  read from this forum).
I will go with the software you mentioned for now ,but I can always upgrade later as I add that other hardware.
One question I have for anyone now is this,I have a brand new USB audio capture UA-25 ,and MIDI interface made by Roland/Edirol ,complete with cakewalk sonar LE software.Do I need this device since my computer already has that soundblaster X-FI card. The sound card has 4 RCA connectors,2 1/4 connectors ,2 Midi ,and 2 mike volume controls, also 2 optical thingys.
Thanks Danny  :)

All the regulars on here knew I was gonna say this...

Take a look at the Mac option... a used Apple Intel laptop, or watch for specials (see below)

excellent karaoke software:  I'm not a full-time KJ but have done substitute work with this package. It's sweet:
http://www.kjams.com

factory refurbs with 1-year warranty:
http://store.apple.com
go to lower left corner for Special Deals
note: mac mini can only drive 1 screen. All others are fine

no sound cards needed... Mac laptops have excellent audio hardware built-in  (both input and output).

Thanks for the inquiry Morgan,
I do have my computer up and running now with new hard drive ,and a new memorex dvd/cd burner.I havnt been able  to get it to read the graphics yet,but maybe it is just a software issue.I should have read the posts here on buying a cdg compatible reader for 9.00 ,instead of the one I bought for 50.00 on sale, which I still dont know if it is going to work.(Yes I am  dummy).
I still need to change the graphics card for dual monitor support(I think) ,but I see there is a very good post going on about that topic right now, which I will read and heed.
I have the free version of Winamp ,and Sax &Dottys right now to get me going, but I havnt really learned how to use it yet.So many things to get worked out ,but I am moving forward while trying to keep up with , and understand these posts.
I did go on E-Bay last night to find out about music, and ended up buying 2 packages of cdgs. Each packge has 450 songs, which I paid about 25.00 for.For that price I might get just what I paid for,but at least its something to get the hardware , and myself up to snuff.
Am I rambling again?
No on the handbag ,waiting on the Memorial day sale! :oh yeah:

Thanks for that Randy, but I already had that pentium 4 collecting dust with that big$ sound card already installed in it.I did spend 109.00 total for the 320gig hard drive ,and dvd burner.Hard to believe that I spent 3,200 for that computer from gateway back in 2001(I think),but I know we all have those storys.
I did get my son a Mac several months ago for his music recording ,which was close to 2,000.According to him, a Mac is hard to beat for that application or graphics.
The only thing I might beconcerned about is my 1.4 gig processor speed, but even Comuhost is supposed to run with 1.4 minimum.       :)

I think one of the features of CompuHost is the ability to take an external video source and allow it to share the singer's screen with CompuHost using a video capture device.   This would be good to have for singers who bring in their own discs and would save wear and tear of the internal Cdrom drive.

The 1 gig ram might help take pressure off of the processor. If you're looking to get faster speed the two areas I look toward chnaging is either the processor or the ram.  I mostly go for the ram if I intend to use the unit that I already have rather than getting a new one.
For example, before I went Laptop, my desktop initially was running a 1 gig processor and 256 RAM.  The Processor was maxed out so the only thing I could change was the RAM which I did about three months before my legs started giving me fits and made haulling the heavier desktop to my gigs. Untill I got my present laptop I ran a 750 MHz laptop I got off of Ebay but had to use my Desktop's monitor for the singer's display.  I was running RoxBox with these computers.  Both were running XP Pro.
My present laptop is running CompuHost as it was the one of the only three standalones that worked well with Vista and had the features that I wanted on it.
Basically I was looking for a standalone program that had simular features to AutoKDJ. The Fillertune player was just a bonus.

I'm running winamp with the autokj plug in on an older laptop with and AMD 3200 processor and ony 512 meg/ram and I've never had any problems with it and best of all the programs are free.  I'd look at starting with something like this to get started and then I'd recommend checking out what other people in your area are using to see what you like or don't like, this way when you are ready to drop the bucks for something bigger you won't be taking a leap of faith.

Thanks for the input guys.Ram is so cheap now as you know ,I would buy 2 gigs for this thing if I could. The problem is it has that hard to get ,and expensive RDRAM ,(I believe thats correct) ,which I had upgraded in the past from 128 to 640 .If I need to upgrade in the future ,I guess it would be motherboard time.I have been getting off pretty cheaply so far ,so Im not complaining. :)

there's a great site I go to for computer deals.

Found it through www.pricewatch.com, and I've been a loyal buyer ever since.

3btech.com

Great deals on motherboard/cpu combos, memory, hard drives (although you can find better on them elsewhere)...

They have some sales every now and then for whole packages... and of course, you can build them how you like, adding fans or software or removing options you don't want. This past mothers day, they had a great deal on a xp home machine with 1gb of memory and a 150SATA hard drive for $214! I didn't get it in time, but even after the special, $340, I was pretty impressed!

Thanks for all the support and patience with me so far on this project everyone. :)
I did go ahead and purchase Compuhost the other day since it seemed like it might be easier without the need for all the extra plug ins etc.. It does seem to be rather user friendly even for me. The problem I am having tonight after installing the program ,and trying to rip my first CDG is an error message. It reads <Error:The selected drive does not appear to read CDG subchannel data>.Unless someone can tell me different (I hope) ,I assume the new DVD burner /reader is not CDG compatible. It is a Memorex ,MRX-530L if thats any help to anyone.Again ,I should have read the threads on this topic beforehand but....maybe there is another route short of replacing the drive again.
Thanks again everyone :)
