What do you call a slow night for your show?  Wednesdays have been off the charts for me lately, and last night i rotated maybe 8-10 singers.  That to me was the slowest night I've had in memory.

On the topic of stupid singers:  One was doing a duet with his buddy.  Master of Puppets I think it was, anyway I have a stool I use as sort of a buffer between the crowd and one of my speakers.  Some people sit on it - no problem (never'd seen a singer sitting on it before).  So there he is, sitting there, sticking the microphone smack dab into the speaker enjoying the happy noises it was making like a complete idiot.  I was in the can at the time and I could hear this going on.  I came out and gave him one of those really stern karaoke dj faces and some sage advice.    Some people should stay home.  

A slow night is when there are only 50 there instead of 100-150. A good night is when they are 3 deep around the bar and people coming in and leave because there is no place to sit. The number of singers is secondary.

A slow night would be not enough cash in the "till" to pay ME. Now THAT'S slow

If we only get about half full at the best part of the night (about 40) that's a slow night for my home room. And they still happen from time to time on Saturdays.

Been there won't do that ....... Started a NEW GIG last year on Wednesdays - Owners fired the KJ that had ......Because they felt they needed a change--Anyway this KJ had a good and loyal following and the 1st week they all showed up looking for the OLD KJ --- Night was good --2nd week they all stayed home in protest - I think there was 4 people in the entire bar.  Owner didn't want to pay me full price - wanted to pay me 1/2 price  :shock:   We settled on $50 Less and I quit as soon as I had the money in my hand  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO

I consider 10 - 12 singers a slow night.  Happens every so often and you can never really guess when or why.
As far as the stupid singers go, I never leave my system alone unless I have a regular singing that I know I can trust.  Not usually a problem, but you can usually spot the ones that are going to be trouble.

I avg 15-20 singers most nights, 25-35 on the weekends.  So anything significantly under that i'd consider slow.
But then you can have a great karaoke night of say 15 singers but those 15 singers are the only ones in the bar - so i'd actually consider that a slow night as well.

I'm assuming you mean the average amount of singers in a single night. A slow night would be about 15 - 20 singers. Now I may start with maybe 8 - 10, but after the 1st hour it grows.

No I said anything significantly lower than those figures I would consider a slow night - as far as karaoke singers.

Let me ask everyone, do you consider your nights based on how many singers only or do you consider slow/busy based on how many in the bar?  20 karaoke singers would be a decent round in a lot of places & may be considered 'busy' by some because they had a lot of singer, but if it was only 20 people in the bar I would consider this a slow night.
Now take those same 20 singers & put them in a bar of 100 people, this would be a busy night.

I was thinking about that myself. I maybe different than others because most of the people who come to the bar sing. I only have a few that will sit at the bar or play pool and not sing. Some nights everyone in the bar is singing except maybe one or two people.

I had a slow night last night. I would guess twenty singers, 10 nonsingers.

woops - I didn't answer the question. I base my nights on being slow according to how many singers I have.

If we have 20 singers and 20 listeners then it is a very bad night because we worked our (@$%&#!) off and didnt make the bar squat. I like a ratio of 10/1 listener/singer..

I base mine on the room. But my place has a pretty consistent singer-patron ratio. Generally about one out of four will be in active rotation.

I've never had a situation like twenty in the room and most of them up. But there are nights where we have just 20 in the room during some part of it. And then rotation probably will be no more than 5-6 with me in too.

It doesn't sound like that much to some of you guys but when rotation gets out over 20 I'm getting tense because the singers are uncomfortable with the wait. And they're telling me about it. I like it best 12-16 which keeps the singers fairly happy and gives the listeners a good variety.

I consider the room vs actual singers.  I would guess 1 to 5 (singer to party animal) my normal so if I've got a rotation of 15 we're talking a good night.  I can have 30+ singers throughout the night because when the place gets packed many will just put one song up.  Waiting 1-2 hours between songs is for karaoke junkies.  We have 7 active bars on Fridays within stumbling distance.  People tend to hop around.

I totally understand - when I first took over the gig I have now people were used to singing a lot when they came in.
Through the first 6 months to a yr that all changed. Now on a Friday nights it isn't unusual to wait 2 hours to sing. The transition was hard. I had a lot of complainers. Over time people realize that is just how it is and they have to wait.

The funny thing is Wed and Sat nights are slower. If they want to sing more they can come in on those nights, but less people do. People like a big crowd. They like performing for a lot of people. And Friday seems to be the big night.

Yeah Babs that's what I try to tell the complainers too. Come Saturday. Or better yet between 9 and 10:30 next time. The ones that came early last night treated to three rounds of singing.

The round that started around 11 must have been close to 30. It took forever. But Thursday is my biggest night. That's all it was at first, with someone else doing DJ work on weekends. So Thurs has the big mo. Also less competition from other rooms that night. Only one other karaoke room close on Thurs.

I'll just say this in answer to that. Karyoker said 50 would be a slow night.  50 would be a busy night just about any place around here!

Depends on the night, (talking my club).  Capacity is 200.  If I got 50 people (not talking singers) in the bar during the week, then that would be considered ok-busy, if it was on the weekend where we normally cap out, then 50 people would be a considerably slow night.

It all depends I have nights were I have 5 singers and 120 people in the bar, it's great I get to play alot of music vs karaoke.

I have nights were I have 30 singers and there is only 50 people total in the bar.

It all just depends. I worry more on the number of people in the bar than the amount of singers. More people in the bar the more I get paid.

Slow night for singers? Or far the bar in general?

Some nights, I can walk in my local place and there's not a seat left to be found... yet there may only be 10 singers. Other nights, I can easily find a seat, there may be a couple tables left open, but everyone in the room be there to sing.

Worst slow night I've ever seen was when I last went out a few weeks ago. I hadn't been for a while, and it was just an odd saturday night. The first place I went to only had 8-10 singers, and not much of a crowd. I got bored, wanted to look up some friends, so I headed down the road to my other usual hangout spot... it was packed. I went up to the KJ to ask him what his singer list was like (it was after 12, and I wasn't sure if I should even bother choosing a song or two)... and he said, "well, now that you're here.... there's me... and you".  LMAO  I was literally his first person of the night to put a song up. It was a bit strange with the crowd that was there. Guess they were all into drinking, playing pool, and socializing... not singing.

By the way... I do live in a pretty small town. The most singers I've EVER seen here in either place has been maybe 25-28.... or something like that. Never anywhere near 50.  :no:
