Here's the situation.  It appears that in order to use my headphones without using the speakers I must either disconnect speakers or use an external amp, which is fine.. Ideally I'd prefer to use my external FX processor for the headphone feature (There's supposedly a way to do this) yet when I hook headset up to external processor all I get is the vocals and external FX (I can't combine the onboard Alesis USB  FX as I have it currently set up).. I DO however have a send/return Y cable and likely could utilize this by hooking ring and tip up correctly to aux send and return of mixer and into external FX processor.  Would this enable me to somehow hear everything using the headphone out of my external fx processor ?

I'd like to be able to hear everything with speakers and headphones independently as mentioned -yet need to set up a type of loop to do this I assume ?  Not sure what to connect to what..  I believe this is one of the drawbacks with this USB mixer, inability to use phone and speakers independantly.. Most use outboard proc or amp.. Yet I'd like to just use Zoom 2020 FX unit with this mixer, without using yet another amp for phones

Units..

Zoom 2020 multifx processor
Alesis USB8 mixer

what wiring config would I use ?

Currently I'm running headphones to external smaller mixer but this seems more than needed. Since I can likely cut that additional mixer out for my purposes

kappy I use mine without speakers all the time...simply plug into the headphone socket and turn the mixer on...you just need to have the main mix knob turned up as well as the monitor/rm

and that's the problem vicki, the headphone.cntrol rm out runs in parallel with control room volume.  I don't wish to disconnect my speakers from the mixer, I'm running the mixer USB..  Until I get good headphones, I prefer the speakers whenever possible !  Truer sound for me. I know how to use headphones without having speakers connected.  I want to use them alone WITH speakers connected, yet have ability to turn speaker volume down.

In order to as you state that means I must disconnect the speakers from both the main mix, and control room.. I can't have my speakers attached to the mixer and use the headphones independently and that's what I need to be able to do. Have both to use independently at the turn of a nob.
I'd like to be able to keep BOTH speakers and headphones attached to mixer at all times yet disable speakers while connected and just use headphones later at night without plugging in and unplugging stuff several times a day.

Meaning with speakers still attached as my main source of sound to this USB mixer, assuming volume is loud enough to be heard in headphones,  there's no independant means of turning down speaker volume

It appears that this mixer doesn't have separate means of just adjusting headphone volume and speaker output.

I believe using my external fx return send loop I can use an external headphone jack for both however.. This is what I'm trying to do

scuse me if I am wrong but the speakers must be active speakers or you have a seperate amp to run passives, cos the mixer isnt powered...that means you have a way of turning down the speakers whilst still leaving them connected and the volume up on th emixer

That's the best solution Vickie, Thanks.. Reason being although the speakers are active, and the mixer has "phantom" power, it's still not allowing me separation of headphones and speakers.  Since I'm running

Mixer---> powered subwoofer----TWO sets of  active speakers (just for computer)
I believe this works fine..

Headphone out----->separate mixer---(allowing me to run speakers and headphones off've second mixer using two separate nobs on headphone mixer)

The headphone mixer I'm using has 6 inputs--headphones out--master channels..and panning for each channel so it's pretty much like a patchbay too I suppose..it offers me more options, it offers me more separation, and options for independent controlling of headphones and speakers.  I assumed there to be an easier way to do this, but I don't believe there is.

I listen to mine on head phones all the time.  Just use my player into the mixer, out of the headset.

I have a vocopro KJ-7800 Pro mixer.  There is a button next to the headset plug that lets you hear what is coming out of the mixer (playing live), or hear a drive not playing to the crowd, by pressing the Cue button.  No speakers, no amp.
