Hey Gang,
I would like to record on my system. I guess I would like to go digital, so it will be easy to post some stuff online and go to CD.
Do you guys (or gals) have any suggestions? Preferrably something reasonable priced.
Thanks!!
Patrick

some of the people I know do have the output going to a home stereo, and/or the inputs for their computer.
I finally bought a Boss 1180CD, from guitartrader.com... it was $850

Is that a hard drive recorder, Matt?
BTW: I am listening to some of the Top Hits Monthly CDG's I just got and the rock sounds really good! I am considering just picking up the pop, rock, urban, and country each month. Then I would just need to backtrack for any requests that I may get and for missing oldies.

To each their own. I personally prefer Pop Hits Monthly, but my ex partner loves the THM stuff! !
One REAL reason I love PHM, is many of their discs go on sale six months after they're released! Karaoke.com has some terrific specials... go to their site, and click on the "Advanced Search" on the left side... look at the "what's on sale", or select the PHM stuff from the search engine.
Right now, they have a "Greatest 90's Hits (6 Disc - 54 Song Pack)" that IS multiplex... from PHM for $14.88!!
Ya can't beat THAT with a stick! And many of the older stuff can be gotten for half off or more!
OR you need to speak with Patricia Lynch, the VP of THM (Panorama Music)... she's a great rep of the company, and is MORE than willing to work with new and older kjs! I'm CERTAIN she can set up a special for you, and she's currently looking to give some promotional materials away!
Matt
P.S. Yes, it has a cd burner, and a 20GB Hard drive. I'm going to be beta testing it tomorrow, cutting some demos with my partner's sister!

Cool! Maybe I will look Patricia up. I definitely want to have everything covered going forward, meaning buying the latest and greatest from pop, rock, country, and r&b.
I will check out the PHM discs and I am heading right over to karaoke.com to see about that special. Thanks for the tips!
Patrick
Do you know of any cheaper alternatives for recording digitally? Is the Boss an 8-track?

Given the choice, I also prefer Pop Hits over Top Hits. The music is a little fuller sounding overall.

Well, I'll certainly check PHM out. I just thought THM did a really good job on the newer rock stuff. Real guitars!!
Hey Lon, this is off-topic, but I know you have a CFX 12. Can I use the onboard effects AND use another effects processor through the effects send/return at the same time? Or will using the effects send/return bypass the onboard effects? I heard that this happen.
I want to use the onboard for the reverb (I also use the med plate setting) and then add some delay using another unit.
Will I have problems, and if so, is there a way to get around them?
Thanks for the help!!
Patrick

The boss is a 10 track.
There are many other types of recorders, but this is the cheapest digital one I've found. I looked into some of the others that have .zip drives, some that used memory cards, some to tape... I just wasn't happy with them!!! I mean, even if I had a cd recorder that could possibly accept two stereo outs, it might be an option to hook up to the mixer. I really searched high and low for something like that.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, though.
Quite a few people on the "other" forum do stuff with the various Foster stuff, but you know, I wasn't impressed with what I was seeing. Also, many of the customer reviews of the stuff was LESS than desirable... from the frequency / dcB it recorded the stuff at, etc.
This was literally the best option for me, for what I wanted to do. In many ways, it's overkill, though! !

Pat, I saw your twinbrooks space... I hope you don't regret going with "GoDaddy.com". I know I sure did when I registered with them!

There are 2 EFX send channels on the CFX series. EFX 1 send is for the external & EFX 2 send is for the internal. This will allow you to do exactly what you want. Hooking into the EFX send 2 will bypass the internal effects.

Thanks Lon. That is good to know.
Matt,
I guess a digital recorder might be out of my budget for now. Maybe, I will just get a cassette deck, for now.
I've registered 5 sites now with GoDaddy and have never had a problem. What kind of problems COULD you have? BTW, where do you host your site? I am looking for much space and many features for short $$!! But, who isn't?!
I have used atomhost.com in the past and will probably go with them again. They have an attractive package for $7.95/Month.
Patrick
ps. I couldn't find that PHM special that you mentioned at karaoke.com. Could you post a link? Thanks!

sure, you bet!
Go to "Advanced Search"
then click on the "Discount" down arrow that currently says "Search What's On Sale"
then scroll all the way to the bottom of the various sales (check each of them out, btw) to where you see the one called "Pop Hits Greatest Hits $14.88"
I use icdsoft.com for my webhosting. The problems I had with godaddy was PAYING with a debit card! YOU MUST RETAIN ALL RECEIPTS (and they're electronic, so save them to a word file or something) because they don't go by a normal account... they go by your credit card number. You must be able to tell them what it is three years later... in order to change your ccard, you have to be able to tell them all about the original. You can't even log on to the Godaddy.com site!
When my site was down for two months, it was because of that fiasco!

I was really interested in that myself. I'm putting together a second system, and may order that while it's on sale! It's normally $75.00 or so!
Man, I love this new BOSS machine! !

I'm not sure that is legal, DJ. Actually, I know it isn't. Which is really too bad because I bet a lot of the singers would be interested.
The CD-RW records real-time, with no problems -- like drop outs? How much is a unit like this?
Thanks,
Patrick

Local theme park uses the same burner and set-up and has had no problems with either BMI or ASCAP who have been in out town recently.
the cost is $500 and works like a dream

It's most likely the theme park has permission to so or they are licensed to do so.

I have a motu 828 8 track recorer in my rack with the rest of my gear. It's a firewire based digtal audio recorder for your computer. All I do is drag my laptop with me when I want to record, plug it in and go. Works great and it's quite easy to use.
