Hi,

I have winamp on my pc and to make life easier i want to keep my pc monitor for my karaoke control, and add a tv which is all connected fine on my vga card outputs but i want to create dual lyrics / graphics windows so 1 can display on my monitor the words of the mp3+g track being currently played and to display the words on my tv to at the same time.

my pc monitor is connected fine and all working dandy with the winamp and single graphics window displaying the track words, but my tv is only showing the windows xp backdrop, is there a plug-in i need to add to my system or extra software to enable me to have the track lyrics dispayed on both pc monitor and tv at the same time, ie to get multiple lyrics displays, as i can move the single standard lyrics display from pc to monitor but just need to mimic it so 1 for my control the other for the tv display.

I'm sure ive tried to make this sound straight forward and clear,

can anyone advise and help,
cheers Ian

In my winamp - I have two copies of gen_cdg.dll  which is the plugin that displayed the CDG part

one is called gen_cdg.dll and the other is installed as gen_cdg2.dll    one is set to display1 and the other is set for display2 (your second monitor)

Hope this helps

Ok here we go: this is a basic problem but let's define some stuff 1st:
TV + computer = 2 monitors, we'll just call them monitor 1 and 2 to make it easier, makes no difference between the 2.

1) We'll need a graphic card with dual output (which most are), the output depends on your what your monitor takes, normally to make it quick and easy, i recommend something with an HDMI for the TV.

2) When it comes to dual display, there's only a few style:
a) stretch: your work space is stretch between the 2 monitors
b) extra workspace: you'll have your main/original work space + an empty work space on your 2nd monitor, each acts independently
c) clone: w/e is on your 1st monitor get display on the 2nd one.

For your problem I would just use option 3. and hook your TV in with an HDMI output (if it's HD tv) or an analog output if it's regular tube tv.

Yes, the file should be in the plugin subfolder under the Winamp folder, take a copy of it to another loacation (such as your desktop) and rename with the "2" as outlined by chuck217.
When you open Winamp and start a karaoke song you may still only see one lyrics screen...if so move the lyrics screen with your mouse and the second one will be hiding behind it.
You can then drag to the other screen (TV) and position one or both as you like.
You can also look under Winamp-Options-Preferences-Plugins-General Purpose and configure there.
Hope this helps.
Randy

I believe he is already set up properly with extended desktop at least according to what he has stated (in red above) - he just needed to know how to get a second lyrics screemn.

Jus to add to what Randy & Chuck said....

Also if after you get the t gen_cdg.dll files setup, mark them as READ ONLY files, and the lyrics screens should stay in the same place each time you shut down and re start winamp  (or was it the INI files?)

Hi All, thanks for the advice and guidance, its well appreciated !!

PROBLEM !!

I've done as all advised, copied the "gen_cdg.dll" file onto my desktop, changed the files name to "gen_cdg2.dll" then dragged it into the plug-ins folder within the winamp folder, all sorted, checked on the options within winamp, preferences, plugins, and yes they are both there, i've clicked on configure both of them and made sure all ok, yes all looking good, then for the sake of it re-started my computer to make sure that they have all been found on re-boot, yes all there, but when i open my winamp its as normal with only 1 lyrics window opened, i've moved it about to make sure it is showing on both monitor 1 and monitor 2 which it is, so this iliminating the possible 2nd window hiding behind the 1st !!

can anyone help any further as i was made up for the advice thinking great i've cracked my problem with all your help and advice, but sadly something is still not right.

regards
Ian :worship:  :worship:  :worship:  :worship:

You should see 2 instances of the cdg plugin down on your taskbar...are they both there?

If yes then click on each of them once to see if you now have 2 screens,
Then on the lyrics screens right click and select always on top.
(I am trying to do this from memory as I am out of town and away from my
computer)

If you only see one cdg plugin down on your taskbar then you need to go back and reconfigure the second one...something didn't take.

You are on the right track and I am sure you will figure it out in no time flat.

Hi,

yes i've noticed there is only 1 cdg plug-in on the taskbar at the bottom, and i've tried to do this several times, even doing a 3rd one ie; gen_cdg3.dll but still doesn't work, i've tried to use the "copy file to" desk top approach as well as drag and drop onto the desktop, but still only gives one plugin working.

Again thanks for you advice, I've taken time out from it and will try again later today, as sometimes you can so easy wind yourself up trying over and over again to no joy, so new attack at it again later re-freshed !!

Its got to be something so little, but that makes all the difference, just like not having a little box ticked somewhere, i've got the principle right, but its just not playing the game !!

Cheers Ian

when you go into the Winamp Prefs window,   plugins,  General Purpose, are both CDG plugins listed ..   the second (or third in this case) might need to be enabled ..

**EDIT**    you might need put a copy of gen_cdg.ini in the plugins folder as gen_cdg2.ini --  just tested it on a fresh copy of winamp and it worked for me

Thanks chuck for the advice,

yes to confirm, winamp-options-preferences-plugins-general purpose, yes they all show, original one, the gen_cgd2.dll and even the third one, all ok when you highlight each individual plugin then press configure button, all enabled, etc, click apply and ok, but still no joy.

I have just checked the plugins folder winth winamp and cant even see the initial .ini file gen_cdg.ini  could this be somewhere else, so i could try your advice and see if it works for me too.
cheers Ian

note... he's talking about the .INI file, not the .DLL one

I can't get the dual screen to work with mine (ver 2.8). The only way I was in the past was to download a whole other .cdg screen made by the users at winamp... and it lagged my pc.

lemme clarify:

I have gen_cdg.dll and gen_cdg.ini

and

gen_cdg2.dll and gen_cdg2.ini

both enabled   -- gen_cdg is set to Display 2 for fullscreen output,    gen_cdg2 is just  set to the tiny version --

when you first play a karaoke track,  it might look like you only have one, because they are most likely both small and sitting on top of each other

move the CDG window so you can determine that you do in fact now have two windows,   right click on one of them, and select FullScreen,   if you did the right one,  the fullscreen should default to the second display.

Hi chuck,

yes I totally relate to what you are saying and understand fully, but trust me i havn't got any .INI files within the plugins folder, 99% of the files there are all .dll

so all i need to do is find the .INI file and duplicate it adding the "2" as we have previously descibed.

would the .INI files be elsewhere, could this be the problem why its not working when i copy the original.

I'm going to do a search on my windows file search to see where the gen_cdg.ini file is this may help and answer my problem, as the original gen_cdg.dll plugin works fine, so i take it there must be the matching .ini file somewhere to make it all work.

I will report back with my findings after my file search.
Ian

Hi again,

OK, i've just do an extended search of all my hard drives both C and D looking in all available choices as follows for gen_cdg.ini

looked in;
Hard drives and subfolders, system folders, hidden files and folders, documents and settings, my documents,  program files\winamp....... nothing found !!

Note both my hard drives are fixed into pc so not removable to cover that possibility of not there or missing !!

So ok, i've just changed the file search to; gen_cdg and the only thing that appeared in the lengthy search was;

gen_cdg.dll  - D:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins - 68k - pplication Extension

which of course we know this is there as this is the original one that works !!

so on both searches, this shows I don't have any gen_cdg.INI files within my system

Any suggestions, please all advice and info is well appreciated !!

My only other worry now, is how the single original lyrics screen working if there isn't any .ini file for that either ??????

Also just checked the versions using just in case this may enlighten anything;

gen_cdg.dll plug-in is; V1.1  (2002)
winamp version; V5.05 (x86) Aug 27 - 2004
