Based upon so many postings we've shared about the quality of various karaoke discs, I am surprised how much recognition has been given to Priddis discs, recently. I feel I am among the most tolerant and open-minded amongst us in deciding what products I will buy, and I have come to the conclusion not to purchase anymore Priddis.
While the first "software" I owned were Priddis cassette tapes, and I have many Priddis discs, as well, I am finding myself avoiding the Priddis tracks when queing up a song, if I have a different version. Am I missing something here?

I avoid them, personally. I only own TWO that I bought, the other seven were sent to me by Priddis to evaluate them. I don't even have them listed in my book.
The one Priddis I liked is the "O Brother, Where Art Thou" disc they put out. No backing vocals, but I love it for two dudes to get up and have fun with it!

I have a couple, not real impressed with them personally, bought for the Evanescence disc & somebody gave me the Chicago soundtrack disc which seems ok.

Through my experience in buy tons of discs, Priddis is good as far as their 'Lost Classics' catalog. For those they stay true to the original. I tend to like Zooms generally better.

Personally Priddis would be about the last manufacturer I'd recommend to anyone. I bought one of their CDG's and it sounded horrible. Nothing like the original tracks.

I don't find a great selection of what I'm looking for with Priddis, however, when I do find something I want put out by Priddis, I usually really like it. I SWEAR by their Wicked version - it's the closest to the show orchestration available as well as the only version where the tempos aren't too slow.
I don't know much about their pop stuff, though since the only things I have from them are showtunes and Believe by Josh Groban.

I've got one Priddis disc. I bought it for the standard, Deep Purple. They did this song well (warning, if you want to sing this song, it's probably one of the shorter songs you will ever sing). Different karaoke companies seem to have different strengths. There are some jazz songs that I've always wanted done that I keep hoping some company will do (like something similar to the first few SGB discs)
These are songs like
Bluesette
When It's Sleepy Time Down South (Louis Armstong's theme songs)
Basin Stree Blues
It seems like it would be fairly cheap to get a few jazz musicians and cover some of the standards that haven't been done yet. Maybe a company like Priddis will take up where SGB left off.

Re: Priddis - what do you think

The 'Lost Classics' series features songs that were very popular in their time but somehow have been forgotten about through the years, usually songs from the 60's & 70's as far as what Priddis offers

I only have one Priddis disc. It is the Entertainer Series, Best of Pop 2001 #9035.
I bought it cause it was the only disc anywhere that has the Gweneth Paltro and Babyface version of Just My Imagination. She sings the song with Huey Lewis in the movie, but the second the credits start at the end of the movie, this version plays.
It is really the only song I play off of that disc. It sounds great. Me and mom sing it together, and me and Hannah at Irish tower sing it together too.

I agree with the prior posts about the "Lost Classics" discs, I have them and people like them and sing them all of the time. Don't know anything about other Priddis releases, but I do like these.

I have their Wicked disk - as mentioned above. Find it the easiest to sing to for sure.
A friend had one of their disks - can't recall what, and it was just astoundingly bad. To the point, it became a running joke.

A while back I got the 10 disc "Lost Classics" package. They get used A LOT, and their versions are comparable if not better than others, as far as THAT series goes. I've also heard some of their other discs which IMO weren't as good as say SC and CB. :2cents:

Priddis is ok. As a singer, the one thing I am bothered by is that on older releases, there are either NO or limited background vocals where applicable. I'm not crazy about how they now list releases as for "alto", "soprano," etc. either but I guess whatever works for them....

i remember someone telling me about that...i'd actually like that feature 'cos i'd rather do the background vocals myself when i'm recording but yeah i'd be lost without them at a club...

I don't mind adding background vocals, provided I can sing them in the appropriate ranges. Since I sing mostly Christian music (in churches of course) there are often multi-key versions of songs so that is a big help.

karaoke manufacturer's disks tend to improve over time. The disks a they produced when they first started business might be of a lesser quality than what they are producing today. I think in general, karaoke has improved a bit across the board.
