Donny,
I can totally understand your anger towards a person that shows wanton disrespect for your investment. Decent equipment doesn't (pardon the cliche) just drop off've trees. It costs money, and some just have little respect for others possessions to begin with. Add to that ethyl alcohol consumption and this is why I refused to even bring my musical equipment to certain "dives" where the musicians weren't offered some reasonable "space" (or safe-haven) from drunken dancers, etc... Few who (entertain) do shows, or perform wish to buy "junk" that's disposable.. Most take pride in whatever they can afford.. It was bad enough watching Pete Townshend smashing Gibson SG's that so many would've loved to have assuming they could afford them way back in time.. I'll be damned if it's going to be MY SG somebody else is twirling around... and same with a microphone.. They aren't five and dime items

Yah, you probably should leave this section too - I noticed you put that on another thread. Not sure why you're even here. Doesn't seem there is anything anyone can offer you. We surely don't come here to defend ourselves and the businesses we've chosen.
BTW, hubby is in an original band...has worked his entire life at music, "honestly" - mmm... If we didn't have a karaoke and dj'ing business, he wouldn't have the luxury of just being "a musician."

Oh look, we have a business person who is now able to furnish the world with a new "websters" definition of "Honest Living".. I suppose nobody designing audio equipment is honest, look at the INTENT  , Heck -even the designers of musical instruments should screen the buyers making certain that such individuals aren't corrupting audiences across the world playing "others material", orchestras should be arrested, right ? The world needs a "Brady Bill" to go into legislature for music stores !!! Dangerous crooks those clerks !! Those dishonest felons !!! God forbid people sell radios, and other playback equipment, how totally dishonest ! It's condoning the spreading of "others music" !
How do you sleep at night with all the dishonesty in the world ??
Frank Sinatra of course was always supported by "Honest" individuals ? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ~~~~ (Of course he was)
What a dismal place the music world would be if the only business people deemed "honest" were the ones playing their own material.. Most of us wouldn't know what "music" means. Reason being, we'd never have 'heard it'
"not creative"- "not original" perhaps.. But when you use words such as "dishonest" in a business sense, you might as well call all of the business world dishonest in some aspect as opposed to singling out a particular segment. Especially as a "DJ", there's no room for calling anyone furnishing a similar line of work dishonest unless you can substantiate WHY, and this isn't a thread to do that.

![wave ](./images/smilies/emot-wave.gif) Kappy,
No...don't get the wrong idea. I'm not angry....just "bewildered" a little. There seems to be a lot of "issues" here. Some apparent...some "cloaked". I think I'll just stand by the "side" rather than "whine" and let the "big dog's" of this forum persue this type of negativity that we've all grown to know and love from "others" who have been here...and now they're not ![Head Scrath :headscratch:](./images/smilies/headscratch.gif) .

Well, I suppose I was projecting my own feelings Donnie.. Seeing folks disrespecting my equipment would cause that adrenaline flowing and emergent sensation to go after them and thwart such behaviour. I'd be angry I suppose. My Shure SM-58 and 57 were about $100 each. A singer twirling it, would really anger me, even though I have carpeting and padding all over !
Breakdown:
Microphones: $100
cable: $8
Replacing windscreens : $15
audiences expression
seeing me get clonked
in head with microphone
at centripetal velocity : Priceless

![wave ](./images/smilies/emot-wave.gif) Everyone,
First, my apologies to Babs for furthering the "hi-jacking" of her OP. Second, shame on anyone who comes here, with personal issues, and "bashes" good folks who have been, or are trying too, make either an honest living doing something THEY truly enjoy, or do what we do, even as a "hobby', or to, at the very least, supplement their income. THAT is not conducive to what this forum is all about, and I personnally would like the "whoevers" to think...just a little would be appreciated, before they make THEIR problems/issues in THEIR lives..ours. We don't need anymore "nay sayers". We've had our fill as of late. ![2 cents :2cents:](./images/smilies/twocents.sml.gif) :handshake:

We now return to Bab's original post....hopefully :hi5: !!

I apolagize to anyone that felt even slightly offended. Was merely stating my personal experiences, and it is the truth.
When I said 15 years, I was referring to karaoke in clubs, most of it was 5-7 nights a week, full time, 24 years total DJ'ing. I can tell you that in 1989, in my area, the whole karaoke venue was quite new, there were no rules, no set standards and certainly no forums to vent, and defnitely no one to ask for advice.
I give props to anyone that has the patience to handle "undesirables" in the club setting. I'm sure I simply burned myself out. I did it sober the last few years and when you're not "part of the party" you certainly have a different outlook. I just got weary of having young buck drunks screaming at me at 2am, so I got out.
I did meet a lot of great people and talented singers, it's just a shame that in my situation they were the minority, I shouldn't have put down the "karaoke" crowd as a whole.
Again, sorry for disrupting, I'll let you get back to your thread.

That's cool - everyone has a bad day - no harm.
Just a thought - I don't think it is fair to compare a musician trying to make it in the music industry to a DJ or KJ running a business though. Some of us are just trying to make a living at what we love. :D
Back on topic - I don't want Babs getting mad at me. LMAO

Quote: An "Honest" living means creating your own music, if you want to make a living with music anyway.
I used to feel that way - distrusting anyone within the industry that didn't pick up and play an instrument.
Then I really just mellowed - it's an elitist view that is a little contradictory. Without these people, there would be no industry.
It's very "cool" at the moment to be "anti-corporate" - but without the "men in suits" and "boys in white suits dancing around like a bunch of wounded ducks" - the industry would be a lot less profitable, and we'd experience a lot less music on whole.
Sorry, just wanted to interject.

when i think about the parties i have done i guess i have been lucky i've only had a couple of times that i had to get nasty once was with a friend thats a good singer but a terrible drunk whose crocodile mouth almost overloaded his humming bird arse. Truly a drunk has no defenses, i learned this from my floor bouncer days, heck i'm just 5' 11 and 195 and was taught by an old barkeeper how to handle drunks usually with comedy and physical persuasion the last resort, but i will not take a personal attack, you can't here in the south. The other time was when i was doing a private party and all was going well and then i get this guy that comes up to me and explains to me how if he was doing this gig he would have charged this much {a lot more than i was} and he has this many songs in his collection {i have 7000 non duplicated songs}and he's not a singer but the worlds greatest kj/dj host he worked at some hotel chain with one of those little box systems....blah, blah etc.... he did comment on how well my mix and sound was, but his arrogance needed to be brought down a notch. He has a girlfriend and she was cute not a bad singer with the daisy duke thing going on, well its her turn to sing so i hand her the cordless mic, being the gentleman that i am and tell her heres the mic beautiful and as she takes the mic in her hand i say " i'm sorry i know your not use to holding something this large in your hand", then without hesitation she says " you've got that right ", i then say " it looks like your with the wrong man then". The crowd loves it. I would not have done this but the person having the party told me to shut him up....well after this the boyfriend kj/dj comes up says hey man i did not mean to offend you whatever i said i was being a arse hole. really once the arrogance left he was really a pretty cool dude and had some knoweledge......cal
