eben:  I downloaded the ASPI driver, this one:

http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/downloads/ ... PI+Package

The first one on the list since I am running Windows 2000. The My Computer still only sees the cd or cd+g only once and that is after a reboot. After I open that cd and put another one in, the My Computer Icon on my desk top will not see the second cd.  It makes no sense to me, but I thought you might know what I can do now.

Thank you
Gayle

Hmm, I am a bit stumped on that one. It could be many things that is causing it. It seems that new drive was an external drive, I assume it was via USB port? Did you install any new device drivers for the new CD drive? If I remember right, Win2000 does not have native USB support so you have to install something to make it work.

It looks to me that it may be the USB driver could be at fault there. If you installed USB driver for the new drive, I would try to reinstall. The best way to fix it is to reinstall the OS. I know it's a lot of work but I am a fan of WinXP, more reliable than Win2000 IMO. Just upgrade to XP if you can.

That's all I can think of.

Lonman: Will this Plextor play cd+g cd that I will be playing in Karafun? I need it to play them because the other cd rom can.

Also I was reading on that site and wondered what this means:

The drive can write to DVD+R Double Layer and DVD-R Dual Layer discs.

This was on a Sony dvd burner and I just wanted to know what they are describing.

Thank you so much!

I bought one - works great, reads & writes cdg.  $9 after rebate.

Lonman:   How do I know if it will work with the cables I have on the lite on it drive?  Or are the cable that connects to the motherboard about all the same?  I know that it is one cable that goes to another cd rom in the computer and the same cable hooks up to the lite on it which I'm really thinking of buying that $9 drive .

eden:  Yes it was a usb hookup for the external dvd burner.  Computers lite on it never worked right after that.  I dont have the install disk for the lite on it driver.

Thank you!

If the other cd drive is a standard ide cable, then it will work fine.  I have a newer tower that uses eSATA connections, so I just used an external USB case & it still worked fine.

Yep, Plextors are not what they used to be. For example PX740 is a BenQ drive with Plextor badge. Yet they are still above the average, and with CD+G-aware software you should have no problems with them.

A the moment I have two Plextors in my machine: new PX-810SA and old PX-716. 810 is working great, highly recommended.

powerkaraoke:  I looked at the 810 model.  what cable are you using to hook it up with?  IDE   or SATA ?  My computer is currently using the IDE.

Which one do you have:
Plextor PX-810SA/IBP-BL DVD Super Multi Drive - 18x DVD±R, 10x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD-RAM, SATA
or --

Plextor PX-810SA/SW-BL SuperMulti Retail DVD Burner - 18x DVD±R Burn, 16x DVD±R Read, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 10x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD-RAM, SATA, Black

I found these at:

thank you,

Gayle

I am using SATA -- SA is SATA version. Their latest ATA drive is PX-800A.

I did some reading and found out that most of the new models that are out there don't write CD+G's, but the Sony DRU models read and write CD+G's. I have bought two of DRU840a and they work fine.

Gayle I would try one of 3 things:

1) Reinstall the drivers that came with your Lite-On burner (it does sound like an ASPI prob)

2) Uninstall the DVD drive but you may still need to reinstall drivers for the Lite-On

3) Try a System Restore to before the date when you installed the DVD drive

As others have said before me many times when you install new hardware the drivers will sometimes overwrite what has been previously installed

I find the opposite -- that if you have recent versions of PowerKaraoke or Microstudio, that almost any DVD writer works with them. I have three systems I have used to write CDGs at various times, and they are not using anything special, just a regular DVD writer.

I think I might go ahead and buy an internal dvd burner that with also back up my cd+g disk.  All my cd+g disk are getting scratched up.  My friends and family come over and also play them(its not all my doing, haha)

I bought an external dvd Lifes Good  burner and installed it on this computer.   It's been acting up.  I've never got the Life's Good dvd burner to work right.  It seems so so slow.  I have got it to burn dvd's, but they won't play in all the dvd players.  What's the deal with that!!!!  I'm sure that its some kind of setting or something, but I made a dvd with it and plays it in the playstation 2.  then took it to work and it wouldn't play in the tv's built in dvd play  Any clues as to why this is happening?

The reality of it all is I really don't know what I'm doing with alot of electronic's, but willing to learn and try.  I've learned alot about computer buy just trying stuff.  It's alot of fun trying so I would like to figure out this dvd burner and cd+g burner stuff too.

Thanks everyone for all your help. I will take it gladly!!!
Gayle
