I just looked this song up on wikipedia. To my surprise it was written by Leon Russell. The song of course was made famous by George Benson's fantastic 1976 recording. I've never heard anyone other than myself perform this song at Karaoke. Leon Russell and George Benson are two of my favorite artists. Just thought I would share.

I've heard it sung a few times in the places I go--it's a nice song.  I've sung George Benson's On Broadway a couple times.  I'd never heard of Leon Russell so I looked up the wikipedia article on him--wow, he has quite the resume!

Leon Russell isn't for everyone. He has a very distinctive voice and singing style. I love blues and soul and he fits both but is hard to categorize. I love his music. I would describe his style as kind of rough around the edges. He was popular in the 1970s if I recall. A Hard Rain Is Gonna Fall which was written by Bob Dylan is one of my very favorite songs done by Leon Russell. The lyrics are amazing.

I'm just recovering from a respiratory illness. I haven't been able to sing for a couple of weeks. I received my Behringer USB soundcard that will allow me to record some of my songs, but I don't know how to put them on Karaoke Scene. When I figure it out I'll upload some, I hope you're not going to be disappointed.

I hope Somewhere Over The Rainbow and This Masquerade will be good enough to upload. I'll try to do Unchained Melody too if it comes out OK. I'm hoping to do a couple songs without music, but we will see what happens after I listen to myself, you may not hear any of my songs. If they stink I'll keep it to myself.

Bob Dylan has some really good lyrics.  I want to learn All Along the Watchtower.

morgan I really appreciate your recent encouragement and pleasant discourse.

As a novice professional performer I'm still a bit insecure in several ways. I'm trying to find my voice so to speak. I admire performers like Israel K and Eva Cassidy who developed their own unique and beautiful style. At this stage I mimic famous popular singers because I really like their renditions of songs. Some of them are so great that I can't imagine they can be improved upon. I have listened to many different versions by many different singers of Unchained Melody and the Righteous Brothers version is the one I like the best. My goal is to sing it as close to that version as I can and if I can come anywhere close I'll be pleased with myself.

honey I am with you...I am a covers girl all the way...I dont have the artistic imagination to take a song by the short and curlies and make it my own...never apologise for that Stogie, sing for the right reasons...it doesnt matter what comes out of your mouth, if it feels good DO IT!! But I will say this...this covers girl has just subbed an original piece written by one of the forum members...I have absolutely no doubt that someone with artistic imagination could have done it far better, but I am really happy that he asked me to do it instead ;-)

I purchased this song for one of my regulars in Sound Choice which is a really good version. It gets played maybe once every 3-4 months but she is the only one that has ever requested it.
