Hi all
I have asked a few questions on this forum and the replies have been excellent.
This is the situation i am starting a karaoke up with limited funds, i am based in the
UK and already have the laptop and all the discs etc it's just the speakers and mixer
amp i require. now i know a few of you are not fans of mixer amps but i am.
Now some of the recommendations i have received i personally think are a bit too
powerful for my requirements some have mentioned 1200 Watts etc.
I will only be playing very small venues 30-75 people max. As i grow then so can my equipment. i have around $800 to spend on 2 speakers and a mixer amp.
please help with ideas you are the only people i know with the knowledge i need.
thanks
It's not really a matter of the power being too powerful, it's a matter of properly matching your amp to your speakers - the only thing more power will do is make the sound at regular listening levels fuller & cleaner sounding. Too little power can blow a speaker if you happen to need to get into any kind of volume. Even in small rooms, there may be times where you will need to push the volume up. If your amp doesn't have the power needed, then you could find that when you push the volume up, clipping can occur which is the major speaker killer. I think it was Jamkaraoke that just blew his speakers a couple weeks ago due to a similar scenerio & he plays small rooms as well & needed to turn the volume up one night.
Remember the 1200 watts is PEAK rating not a continuous rating & it's also at the biggest load allowment of 2 ohms which most speakers are 8 ohms - I think you said the speakers you were looking at were 4 ohms (Peavey Pro15?) which require an amp to push 600 watts into 4 ohms.
