I can't speak to the DVD/VCD thing -- have none and no reason to play any. I don't even know what VCD stands for.

It may surprise people in this forum that more karaoke songs are produced in DVD/VCD format than CDG.

I think I've narrowed my selections to three.

1.  PCDJ-KJ plugin.
2. Compuhost:
3.  MTU Hoster:

There is also Siglos Professional.

I was using PCDJ for karaoke last week substituting at a regular gig.

It was very annoying that you could ONLY add new singers to the END of the rotation, and also cannot re-arrange names in the rotation

Hopefully this was an OLD version of PCDJ / karaoke and a newer version fixes this???

thanks for the great advice.  I bought CompuHost last week, got it today. I really like it.  It has some cool bells and whistles.  I also got the songbook program with it and the lifetime updates for an extra $30.

Another update, I sent MTU Hoster's sales/support team an e-mail with questions back on April 4th and got a support ticket number immediately. I was happy.  It is now May 21st and I finally got a response to that ticket.  I had planned on buying that product but the lack of response turned me off and I gave up.   Moreover, the PCDJ product that I have for my MP3s has a KJ plugin that I initially wanted.  I e-mailed them a week before I even knew about and  tried to contact MTU and have NEVER gotten a response.  I'm not trying to slam anybody or their products because I'm sure they are all good, but I am a dentist and run a business and when I need software or tech support, I need it right away.  CompuHost was quick to respond to my questions and they got my business.  This may be information for prospective buyers, and it may be a wakeup for the companies that they are missing the boat.

Thanks again.

Randy

From what I know about the PCDJ PLuggin - Is what you saw is IT -There will be no upgrades or improvements to that program.  The company does offer more enhanced programs which work for DJ / VDJ / CLUB DJ / KJ  etc.  It seems they are leaning towards trying to PLEASE everyone instead of SPECIALZING in a better Karaoke only program.

I do use the PCDJ RED VRM  with the KJ pluggin and like it.  I've been using for a few years.  I do some DJ regular music in my show and like the all in one progam where I can auto mix etc.    The rotation and singer que list are NOT THAT GOOD for a Large rotation ( That I agree).  PCDJ is just another option out there.

For someone with a large rotation and doing more KARAOKE than DJ - it may not be the BEST out there.

Interesting thing about the way I do it with winamp (no autodj stuff) with their cdg window plugin.

You just queue up the songs in the window, and can move them around at will if you have to. Since I make my singer's screens in karaoke builder and make that a .mp3g as well, I use that for my rotation. You see the singer's name, it plays for three seconds, and then the song begins.

While it works extremely well for me, it won't fit all the folks out there. As some have pointed out, winamp has it's limitations (although I've never had a complaint). If you want more bells and whistles, obviously the paid for programs will appeal more to you!

MTU relies on their forum for general questions to allow fellow users to give free help.    Compuhost has a feature that allows you if you have a video capture device you can hook your outside player to it and switch the singers screen to the outside player's video source.  It may be a way around the DVD/VCD issue.

Yeah, I noticed that about the ability to send an outside video into the software.  Kinda cool option.  I hit the button for it wondering what it was and my laptop webcam kicked in and my ugly face was on the screen instead of lyrics.  I figured I could get a video in from my DVD/cdg player and an audio out on a different channel on my mixer and Voila...problem solved...no need to worry about the VCD/DVD formats.  On another thread here I posted wondering about Super CDG and found out that I can buy them and use some software to ripp  mp3-g from that.  The Charbuster Essential packs are on Super CDG and really cheap...I think I'm gonna get some of those for my laptop.

Cool option, but it would probably be better and easier to use a video switch with your DVD/VCD player, rather than relying on a video capture device and your PC
