Unless you have many different terminals set up where someone could just sit & peruse all night, I most likely would not frequent a show like that.  I enjoy looking through a book at my table.  Remembering songs, maybe writing down songs I would like to learn once you see them or certain artists.  You can't do that at an electronic book show, takes away alot of the personal touches IMO.  Hell with the way computerized shows are now days, all someone would need to do is incorporate the electronic terminal into the hosting program where it would then act like a jukebox.  Hosts aren't going to be even a factor someday.

I do have a copy of this progam and took it to several show just to see what people would think over all..I would say 80% liked it  & wanted it 10% would rather have books to look thru as you stated and the other 10% because they dont like computers..mostly the older crowd. More like by the end of the summer I plan to go to this format..it will save alot of money on having books printed..the only down side is keeping people away from the computers with drinks

Just another rule you'll have to enforce.  So what happens if the rule gets broke & someone accidently spills their drink & shorts the computer or at least messes up the keyboard to a point of non-usability?  People have to guess what you have?

Computer that runs the kiosk crashes?  Can't get it back up & running?  Now what?  Computers never crash.  So what spend MORE money on another backup computer & have to take time out of the show to have to set it up & get it going.

If you are going to offer the kiosk, at least have a few books still in print for those who enjoy to look through them  and for back up purposes in case one of the scenerios above occurs.

the one problem i see with that is they will look for a pen and paper and not go toward the computer.... plus i wont lose books i printed to a beer..writing in them or on them. plus ill be able to read the slips
I have thought about both and thank you for your imput but  i guess the benifits are greater as far as i can tell.

Just rather lose a computer over a beer....makes sense.  Even when someone is watching over something, accidents can still happen, someone walks by & accidently trips or get bumped & down the beer goes flying over the head & in between the hands of the guard as it washes over the keyboard & depending on where the cpu is, over it as well.

And barfights never happen....

I know Ericlater is exploring this concept, but he is doing it in ADDITION to his books. One peice of advice, Radio Shack sells a gel keyboard that is 100% waterproof and bar safe....

looks like it could be cool to have 1 on a really cheap (disposable) laptop allowing people to look up the song and then either wright out a slip or tell me what they want to sing. with computer hosting it is simple for a singer to just ask me if i have there song...why do we over complicate things.

Computer is it.  People just tell you what they want, you enter & move on.  I didn't think i'd ever do that, but more often now days, I just write up a slip with the singer name on it & they just tell me their next song most of the time.  Pretty simple.  Having the books online is a huge factor as well, the customers can check out their songs at home & print out slips & have them ready for the night.  We have WiFi & a couple people actually use their laptop & go into my online book.  It's always updated anytime I get new discs, as my in house books get a new front page supplement.
