Most broadway songs IMO are pretty dang bad to hear drunk people squawk out at karaoke & wish they weren't in the book.
Most religious songs I wish weren't in the books, kind of hyocritical to be in a bar drinking then have someone sing a song of the Lord...oftentimes drunk themselves then singing about salvation.
Those would be the start , not really songs, but entire genres in general I wished were never in my books. If I HAVE to list individual songs, that could take all night.

Gemini, I resemble that remark…LOL I have been working on doing Pour Me, I think it’s a neat song and enjoy singing it. My son tells me I sing too many of the old songs, so I have been trying things that are a little more contemporary. As for Crazy, I have done that one for years, but not much lately.
The songs I wish weren’t in my books is any song with the F-bomb, or any other disgusting vulgar lyrics. Having a very difficult time culling them out, as I have never heard most of the rock / hip hop artist and have no idea what their style is.
I agree with you about the religious songs, not proper to sing those in a bar, especially if your inebriated. I do some benefits for the elderly, and they really enjoy them.

I resent the drunk comment. I sing Broadway songs, and most of the crowds enjoy it (because they don't hear stuff like that sung). Besides, I don't hear many people sing Broadway at Karaoke shows (aside from some of the standards like songs from "West Side Story" or "Grease").

"Pour Me" was sung for the first time this year two nights ago and got a good response. I think you'll be fine with it Blue Rose.
Just don't do "Suds".
As a KJ I've come to terms with "Picture" as just being part of the job. It has it's positive qualities.... it's a song that that couples often kiss or show affection right afterwards and I'm for that. And as much as it's done, the room at the least tolerates it and many still sing along.
"Friends" is still on top of my list of songs I wish weren't in my book. "PBTDL" doesn't count because it isn't. I pulled it.

Yeah that one. I can't even force myself to type it all out.
The Legends version is the shortest of the ones I have and the only one I'll allow.

I think I've only heard "Pour Me" sung once (who recorded that song anyway? I don't even know). "Long Black Train" isn't ringing a bell at all--I don't think I've heard it.
I love most religious songs, but don't do many of them for karaoke. (I did do "Silent Night" last year around Christmas time; didn't get much of a response, but I enjoyed singing it nonetheless.) One problem with most religious songs is that in the book it just says "gospel" or "traditional", so I don't know whose version it is; ergo, I don't know what key it's in (or how much to tell the kj to raise or lower the key). Too, there is the conflict you guys mentioned about singing them in a bar (although I don't drink THAT much, just a little). I might do more Broadway songs if there were more of 'em available that I could sing.

Well, if you're ever in NY, and I am doing a show (rare as that is), you're more than welcome to do Broadway.... I have the largest collection of Broadway songs than any other KJ that I know personally.

@ Extreme Prejudice!!!
OK... I can deal with "Turn the Page" and "Killing Me Softly" as long as they are the original versions and not the Metallica/Fugees remakes.

"Turn the Page" when sung badly is just AWFUL! Something about it... there's some songs when sung terribly you can suffer through them.
I've done it, and had people start to leave (go outside - smoke) and then stop and go "OH, HE knows how to sing it!" and sit back down!
But I'm sensitive to the worn out nature of it... so I'll sing LOTS of other Segar tunes!
I even torture myself when playing Dungeon Seige 2... when I visit the Amanlu elven town, I'm usually singing the chorus to "Katmandu" but substituting "Amanlu"! Cracks me up!

Sorry Vicki, wasn't meaning to imply that EVERYONE sings it horribly. But in my experience, most folks that try to sing this simply suck! !
How do you handle the part where the song mentions the long hair and "is that a woman or a man" bit?
