omg have the anti-smacking zealots infiltrated USA too?
Nobody is gonna dictate how I damn well discipline my kids NO-ONE!!! if they wanna try they can raise them cos frankly if the little b*****ds need a thrashing then you should be able to divorce them like you can your spouse.
Fortunately I had a good kid, cos I will not stand for BS, not in the home and certainly not by some well meaning crapartist who thinks they can dictate to me how to parent

I totally agree with all of you.
Please bear with me while I relate my one run in with children’s services.
Back in the late 80’s my youngest son attended a church program on Wednesday nights that was mostly a play time, he was about 11 or 12 yrs old. One night he came home from this activity and he had hurt his hand. I watched it closely for the next couple of days doing the usual things to reduce swelling, and it seemed to be getting better, so I didn’t take him to the Dr. or ER. There happened to be a nurse living in the apartments where we lived, and my son looking for sympathy, gave her a big sob story. She called children’s services, and at 9:30 pm on Friday night a lady from this organization and a police officer showed up at my door to take my son out of my home. I tried telling them they were full of it if they thought they were going to take my son anywhere, but could see that I definitely didn’t have the upper hand in this situation. I agreed to take him to the ER myself, and they followed me to the ER to make sure I did. I was subjected to a lot of whispering and pointing, obviously the doctors and nurses, among others, were discussing what a terrible mother I was. The doctor who looked at my son made a big deal about it, putting a soft cast on his hand and arm, and ordered me to bring him back on Monday to see Dr. somebody, (don’t remember the name). I told him that I would take my son to the pediatrician he always went to on Monday, which I did. The pediatrician took off the soft cast, x-rayed it and said that there was a hairline crack in the bone below the little finger. He did not put a cast on it, and when I told him what I had been doing for it, he said that was the correct treatment, to continue and it would be fine in a short while. Now you might think this is the end of my story, but no. This lady from CS harassed me at my work, both by phone and in person, almost causing me to lose my job, called my older children that were grown asking if I had ever beat them, etc. It was 6 or 7 months before they finally left me alone. At the same time in the city where I lived, there was a young woman with one child, who lived with her boyfriend/pimp. They had been called to this gal’s house several times for reported child abuse. They had not removed the toddler from the home. It was front-page news when the boyfriend threw the child from the third story window and killed him. There were a lot of people that were wondering why CS hadn’t done something before this happened. I really wanted to tell everybody, it was because they were too busy harassing people that were good parents and sticking their noses in where they didn’t belong.
I have always heard the phrase, “Spare the rod, spoil the child” I had never looked to see if this actually comes from the good book, so I did look it up, and found several references to the subject, none that said it verbatim, but very close. But then, it’s no longer politically correct to go by the book that has dictated the way to live life for generations, and produced some outstanding individuals, and an all around Christian, caring society.
. I don’t advocate severe spankings, but I think the fact that they didn’t get any spankings is a lot of what’s wrong with many children today that haven’t been taught anything, made to obey any rules, or learned to take responsibility for their actions.
As for the situation in Texas, all they have accomplished is severely traumatizing these families, especially the children. I don’t think young girls should be forced to marry older men and bare children, but they haven’t stopped this practice, all they have accomplished is a lot of media hype. I hope this isn’t the end of the story, that there will be something done in the near future to protect the young women in this society.

It's never good to spank a kid on the (@$%!), he'll end up getting an (@$%!) fetish. Do what my folks did, smack and punch me in the head with a closed fist (unless they are dyslexic and couldn't tell the difference between my head and my (@$%!), I assume they did it on purpose, of course since I've got (@$%!) for brains, it's possible they thought my head was my (@$%!), at any rate -there'd be more healthy adults in the world today if there parents smacked them in the head, take me for instance
Come to think of it, my parents smacked me on the head, and I still ended up getting as A$$ fetish, can somebody explain this to me ?
(In Little RIchard Voice) OH SHUT UP !

the majority are wrong because the laws wont affect the ones that really take it to extreme, they will continue to abuse regardless...tis the innocent parent concerned with ensuring their children respect their elders and have some old fashioned values will be persecuted

..... what country do you live in?.....first of all, we live in a republic where the interests of the individual are protected from the majority's interest . We don't even elect our president by majority vote, though most of the time it has worked out that way. 90 % of us favor capitol punishment in some cases, yet a few bleading hearts have time and time again stopped justice from being served. I could go on and on and relate lists of things that are the rule, yet the majority is against them. Like Matt says, the vocal minority rules in this country....loudest squeak gets the oil

yep, it is a sad state of affairs. While the children have been in protective care one of the young girls gave birth to a child. I believe both of those children are being kept in custody

Yeah, and how many years did it take the R. Kelly thing to finally go to trial. I don' t know if he is innocent or guilty, but when you have something like that on tape, and the police get it, shouldn't it be something that they look into right away. I don't know how his celebrity status has made it possible for him to avoid a trial for this many years. The whole judicial system is screwed up.
