Just wanted to report that I've finally proved that I can't sing! I have been strung along by all of the glory hounds all along!
This proves that the number of comments a singer gets has nothing to do with whether or not that person can sing, but just inflates their male/female ego to where they make fools of themselves.
Not sure if it's a mystery or not, but I've fallen on hard times recently. Lost my job of 10 years back on 05/12 while my financial state was already in disarray. I took a little over a week off before I started a new job on 05/23. Hell, I only took 1 week of vacation in the last 10 years!!
Well, I stop back in here to sing a song finally after all of the turmoil in my life the last couple of weeks....a song in which I could barely fight back the tears while trying to sing it. It wasn't that great...I know this from my own heart, but I just wanted to stop in and say hi to all of my "friends"?
Hmmmm.....I wonder who my 4 friends are? LMAO LMAO LMAO
I received 3 recent pm's from people who are hardly ever in the "Showcase".
How quickly we forget people. Sorry I haven't been around to "stroke" anyone for a while. LMAO
I knew all along I couldn't sing though....maybe all of the other braggarts should stop and re-evaluate also.

right Perry are you over feeling sorry for yourself?
I am sorry you are having challenging times...it happens to all at some time or another. Perhaps the lack of response to your song had less to do with the quality of the vocals and more to do with the fact you subbed under L.
I personally dont bother listening to anything subbed under L.
As I said I am sorry for the hard times and I understand that it can leave you bitter, but dude what you have just intimated here is unjustified and just plain wrong.
If you needed support then reach out...dont expect us to be mind readers.

ok Perry I'm really confused..
you subbed a song under "L" for listen only right? and yet you seem to have wanted comments in some way shape or form because you're upset you didn't get a slew of pm's? Like Viki said, a lot of people jump over the "L"'s because they want to carry on a conversation like atmosphere, kinda hard to do on an L.
Or am I mistaken on what an L means?
you're a very talented singer on any given day.. I'm sorry you're having a bad time of it, so are hundreds of others of us.. I barely make it to any site at all anymore so I miss half of what happens, which is ok, I've enough on my own plate to deal with too.
So.. strap the mic back on.. and stop stressing over the small stuff, it doesn't do anyone any good..

I hope things work out for you, Perry. I am sorry that I wasn't one of the 4 listens that you got. Gosh, I've not listened much in the past week or so during which I've been busy. However, I am one who has listened & commented on your songs in the past. I can honestly say that you are indeed a good singer.
Perry, with the limited time that I have, I always give priority towards supporting those who invest their time in me. This in no way means that I don't want to support you if you do not support me. It is a case of utilizing the available time (which is often limited) to return another person's courtesy. Once I am all caught up...and if time permits, I do a second round of listens to newbies and others whose singing I enjoy. In fairness Perry, I think that many others follow the same philosophy.
I know that comments on our songs might go down if we don't have the time to support others, but I have no reason to believe that anyone would consider anyone else less of a singer or a friend. Trust me, there certainly are more than 4 people who wish you well and will have you in their thoughts and prayers, that things will work out well for you.
Good luck, Perry.
Ron

Hey Perry!
Just to let you know, you're not alone in the job department. I relocated back to missouri, and with a health issue on top of it, was stuck working contractor for local IT companies. Sucked... no benefits, (which is how I got sick)... Over two years that way. I'm in a new job since February, and it's okay (boss sucks big time though! Oh well, can't have everything).
Just to let you know, I was unemployed for five months trying to get my first job back here, and after leaving one job, had a month off due to recovery from surgery. I owe the IRS bigtime, and they're getting itchy! The medical bills are outrageous (no benefits, so the cost is ALL on me)... $70K for ten days in the hospital!

Matt sorry to hear you have been having probs...I had surgery on wednesday to smooth off a cartilage and torn cruciate ligament.
what am I doing up at 3am? every time I lay down I feel like I am falling. How does one get dizzy horizontal...I guess having surgery with a sinus infection may have caused it, cos I still keep getting whiffs of gas

LMMFAO!! Me? Feeling sorry for myself? Not hardly Missy. That is not even what this is about! It was just a test to show that how many comments a person gets on a song has nothing to do with whether or not that person can sing.
If I had wanted comments, I would've asked for them in the showcase! Instead, I went by how many "listens" appeared, and I found out I'm just like the singers who barely get comments at all. Which makes me believe that all that comment stuff means nothing! So who really cares about it? Not me! Because I know I'm not that good of a singer. And others who've seen me get mucho comments before think it's all a bunch of hype!
I think your bitterness is more in the fact that I haven't listened to your work for a long time, therefore, you state that you don't give people the time of day who don't flatter you constantly? LMMFAO!!
Hence my meaning...."I don't wanna be followed" in the other topic "Family Issues" here in the Singer's Forum. If that's what being friends is here at SS, count me out, I'm not into insincerity or fluff.
Only a small few here have proven their sincerity in the past, and I don't believe you were one of them.
My love for others comes from God, where does yours come from? 'Nuff said.

Hi Cindy. No. That wasn't what this was about. It was just a test to prove that comments aren't the basis of a singer's talent. Mona (Moony) stated in another thread that alot of excellent singers here aren't being lavished with comments when they should be....I agreed with that wholeheartedly. And I'm supposing that it just has to do with the fact that they can't make time to listen to others, because when they see how many comments some others get on songs, they know it's just hype anyway. It's just cyber-friends flattering one another constantly.
I went to the "L" a while back just because I haven't had the time for listens to others, but that seems to make "some" bitter in fact.
I was not feeling sorry for myself here! I'm resourceful enough to work out my own hard times. Right now, I'm on the road to recovery.
As far as me receiving a pm or 2, what's wrong with that? If others are sincere about who they prefer to relate with here, it doesn't have to be public as in the showcase.
I guess I stepped on a few toes here with this topic, because I'm saying that mucho comments make "some" singers look foolish. My bad.
Just so you know though Cindy, I think "you" are a fantastic singer, and deserve any praise that's out there!
Sometimes, I just can't help but to "stir the cauldron". LOL

You make an excellent point Ron! But, my point was that some others have a different mentality when it comes to supporting others. It's more of a 50/50 thing to some.....you give to me, I'll give to you, and no other consideration.
I'm sure people are well aware that some singers here have very limited time....I'm one of those also, working 14 hours a day as a trucker. I was so tired after just 3 days, 14 hours a day, on my new job, I collapsed last night for a good sleep finally.
My trying to sing days are all but completely finished. This happened months ago when I realized that I was giving too much effort to try be a part of this place and trying to keep up with the one's who've supported me in the past. But I've also lost my inspiration....the person who made me feel like singing from the start a few years ago. This in no way has affected the way I feel about others here though. I've just had a hard time "wanting" to be a part of this lately. I'm not bitter, just confused I guess, and felt like making a point about this "comments" thing.
I appreciate your honesty Ron in the fact that you weren't one of the 4 listens. LMAO
Take care.

My bitterness? honey lets get something straight...I dont actually think about you often enough to wonder why you havent listened to me. While you were feeling sorry for yourself, I was dealing with a lifelong needle phobia and surgery on my left knee with more to come on my right. Singing is my R&R, my way of dealing with things that would possibly send me to the wall otherwise...the fact that I have been coughing for 60+ days which caused two operations to be postponed and have solo gigs to fulfill also bears more than passing thought...but sorry honey YOU DON'T.
Now we have that into perspective...whatever bee you have in your bonnet, get over it ok?

Hi there. I wasn't fishing for comments on the quality of that song. My belief is that whether the song was so-so or very nice, the comments would've been there had I'd been a regular participant day-in and day-out supporting others in a friendly way.
But since I haven't been for a while now, I've just kind of fallen by the wayside.
The point was, if I was really an excellent singer, comments only apply to those who participate daily with a regular following.
If I was a terrible singer, I'd have as many comments also....just because I'm a regular supporter.
This was just a sociological experiment. LMAO
Thanks for the nice words hun.

Hey Matt. That sounds worse than what I've dealt with for sure. Me being a truck driver/ retail delivery guy, I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to find the same "type" of a job that would pay good enough from the start, but I lucked into another one. And it's a Teamster's Union job with excellent benefits. 5 day work week, home every night, and decent pay.
I pull a 53 ft. refrigerated trailer delivering perishables to a well known grocery chain in IN. IL. & OH. I still unload the trailer myself, but with a power-jack. I have to work up to 14 hours per day to make a decent days pay though.
Last year at my previous job, I made about 70k for less hours.....that's why I lost my job....they were paying me too much with the rising fuel costs.
After 10 years of dedicated service, they let me down. I was stunned at first, but not much surprised about it.
I'm glad to hear your story and that things are okay too. We're all vulnerable I guess. But I've heard that IT pros are highly valued in the industry? I guess it depends on who and where the jobs are.
As far as that song I was referring to, I put it up under the "L" just to count the listens later so I could substantiate my point here. It doesn't matter whether I'm good or whether I suck, if I don't spend time on others, they can "anonymously" not spend time on me if I sub under the "L'. That's everyone's perogative I suppose.
This also makes me a troublemaker I suppose.
Oh well. I'm still a good-hearted person really, even though my ramblings are questionable in nature.
Take care man.

Well Perry, if you just found it out, then you're late, ...Nor the comments nor the ranks mean something on this site. To have many comments means not that you are good, but it means that you spend nearly 24/7 of your time on here, making thousands of them yourself. But I'm sure they think that...
You wanna have more comments? That's easy...become part of the family, tell all your secrets and (@$%!) in public, love them all, spend your money in making calls, chat all day long (I wonder if you would do the same in real life...usually we are very selective and don't like everybody, that's why we only have a few really good friends and not millions) and you'll be the King off SS. But do YOU really want it??? I doubt!
Better be happy with your 4 listens...they were sincere...
(Guess, my next song will probably have just one comment, because of what I've said, ...my daddy always said to shut up, but I never could...d a m n!)

Hi Perry...I have probably listened to about 80-90% of your L subs and have even PMed you before to comment, as you know. I didn't make it to this last one, but it has nothing to do with you not being a good singer. Sometimes if I'm pressed for time, I tend to give firsts to those who have visited me recently. Don't take it personally, Perry. I do support you and will continue to listen to your subs. I once subbed L and didn't get many listens either. I know some people are into the participation that comes with commenting and you can't give anyone feedback on an L sub unless you email or PM, which takes extra time that we don't always have. Now smile and keep subbing...you're very good and I enjoy your subs.
