I don't know about anybody else, but I think we have a new subject for Dr. Phil House - put Gemini and his daddy on there and let's figure out where this authoritarian bent comes from ... Have to wonder why someone would have to have so many inane rules. You WILL do as you're told...you will NOT question my authority. Now be a good boy and sing your song and ENJOY it.

Well, not to totally defend Gem, but I too have some rules. Rules invented as a necessity from the out of control nature of the regs I had. In fact, my rule sheet satisified many bars I prospected, for they had major concerns for seeing venues where the people were OUT of control.
For the record, I personally don't have a problem with Gem's rule about no cdgs. All I know is it's not a venue I want to attend!

Or can attend for that matter... As soon as he saw you come through the door (probably has pics of everyone from the other forums on his wall to compare with), you'd be out the door....according to him. However if you are going in to spend money I seriously doubt the manager would do one thing if you were not starting anything except putting money in the till. Then you could do a review & bring it back....

What you want to do is go in with a few other people, wait til he says you can't sing, then go to the manager. You tell the manager what's happened and say you're walking out with a few hundred dollars you were planning to spend on food and drinks.

Hey Gemini---I DO APPRECIATE you not using caps this time. It was really hurting my eyes (and everyone elese's too)to try to read your posts that way. I appreciate you accomdating everyone that way. You DO have some valid points about your sytle of controling your show. My beef is that from reading your rules is that it seems not to accomdotate the customer to the best of your ability. And you havent given much in the way of reasons for the two main problem rules----No discs and accidental dropping of mics.
But I do thank you for dropping all the caps!!
Now lets get on with THE ARGUMENTS!!!

I am amazed that you actually get work with an attitude like that.
Karaoke is supposed to be fun. Without your customers you would have no work.
You are working in a place where there is alcohol and people can get boisterous and excited and accidents do happen. Being so heavy handed doesn't seem to be in the best interest of the customers.
I have never had major problems with any of my singers a quiet word or taking the mickey out of them with a witty comment usually does the trick!
If I ask you to key change a song for me and you forget does that mean I can ban you because you made a mistake?!
Or if you pronounce my name wrong when you introduce me to come up on stage can I have you removed from the premises?
It cuts both ways.

best interest of the customer or do you mean the drunk......having rules and following makes the event more fun and safe....I have be told im pretty strict and that ok I would rather have that than a free for all....now i guess you jump for not allowing drinks on stage... ...where does it end.... you know this is the way i feel if you want top do whatever then go somewhere else......

PLEASE, don't curse on my mics (unless it's part of the lyrics)
and
PLEASE, don't ask me to jump you up in the order (even if you are the bar diva)
Other than that, I do my best to accomodate every singer in every POSSIBLE way. (Please note, I said POSSIBLE)
They are the reason I'm there, NOT the other way around.
Maybe they are the reason you are there...but Im the reson that they are there..I have a good show and run it fairly..within limits.

Gemini, you might consider getting a church gig somewhere. Safest place for you, and would allow those who enjoy drinking while socializing an opportunity to have adult fun. I continue to wonder why a person would tie themself up with so many rules and regulations, and apparently enjoy enforcing them with such zeal. I don't understand it. "Nun with Ruler Karaoke ... leave your fun at the door, please."
This whole thread is getting really old. We know where Gemini stands - obviously at the very top. Leave him there. The rest of you - go out and have fun.

Just the attitude that he seems to look down upon his customers.
Yes - customers. If they weren't there, neither would you be!

Do I dare use the CF word?
ok...here goes........Control Freak!.....Sorry folks, I couldn't resist
This sometimes happens to folks when for the first time in their life start a business and the whole "Owner Thing" goes to their head which is obviously happened here (just a wild guess). No doubt you will get to call the shots until a bar owner says you don't.
Some folks have to learn the hard way.

Gemini, I don't mean to sound stupid but not everyone drinks alcohol in a bar.
Me being one of them. I go for the social aspect. So if I dropped the mic it would be an accident, not the fact that I was drunk.

My signature used to belong to the Big-Winder but now it's all his. This is a direct quote from him page 2 of this thread. Quote: Accidents are caused by people NOT paying attention and thats no excuse. I also had one customers arrested 3 months a go for such an act..as the cops said..and I said being drunk is no excuse for being stupid. he paid $150 Court Cost plus me..
