If you could walk into your normal weekly karaoke show - as either a SINGER or a KJ and could have 1 wish ...WHAT WOULD IT BE .
As a KJ at my weekly show I would wish for the perfect area to set up , enough room to set up and place speakers along with a stage for singers to SHOWCASE.
Along with just enough singers to keep the show moving , but not too many in where they get "impatient".
and YOU

I did a one-off gig to cover for a mate that fulfilled my wishlist.
1) Dedicated stage area, with own lighting - check
2) Dedicated DJ area - check
3) House PA system geared up towards karaoke - check.
I turned up with all my gear and 50% of it sat in the car! I jacked in the laptop, wirless mics, processors,e tc and ran the show.
4) Good crowd - check
Was a gay bar, and they all were just 100% up for it, but amazingly polite and never bugged once about "When am I singing" (Compuhost elimates this anyhow)
5) Good displays
Their mixing desk area had an s-video port that went to a large plasma as well as monitors around the room.
Dream venue!

Reminds me, I need 2 cheap mic stands - may pic them up this weekend. Don't want to appear "cheap" but they get bent, broken, knocked around - they are a prop, and I don't care if they get messed up.

When I pull out a mic stand, people all "ooooh" like it's some sort of diva statement!

2 or 3 times I have hooked a spare channel on a friends system..They liked it for I gave them breaks.
My dreams are singing at places long ago which is not possible for the buildings are gone.

As a singer - I wish for the days of karaoke like I used to have. About 20 of us all go out together, lads and lasses, drinking sugary bottled alcopops, getting silly and singing really odd choices.

I know they are seen as childish or effeminate, but they taste so nice, and get me to a very happy, relaxed level of intoxication

just haven't heard them called that before.
I know what you mean. There's a mixed drink called "German Chocolate Cake" that is to DIE for. For me especially. There's so much sugar in that it'd probably kill me! !

Hence me not drinking them anymore. 500 calories in one called WKD over here. Thats 1 330ml bottle. I used to drink about 15. Thats 7500 calories in one evening.
I am meant to be about 1500 a day!

YIPES! That's a lot of calories! My libation of choice has "99 Bananas" in it - have to be careful. Mixed with 2 other types of alcohol, and 3 over the evening, definitely could mean an impaired charge. So tempting when things taste so good.

Yup, I am on soft drinks when hosting. It's my job and I don't turn up to work drunk!

Agreed. A mic stand is an essential. I don't know why anyone would not have one. The place I sing at regularly has had the same two mic stands for the last 7 years.
But my one request as a singer is a good sound system that isn't too "dry". Too many KJs are afraid of letting rock singers sound like rock singers. If I'm doing some Zeppelin I want to have a fighting chance to sound like Plant.

Alolt of it honestly depends on the singer. If I hear a singer that CAN sing like Robert Plant, i'll go ahead & give them the effect, otherwise 9 times out of 10 they are just you typical singer singing for fun & the effect wouldn't matter anyway. If I hear a singer that can actually pull off a Zep song, they get my full attention & effects. Otherwise I make them sound as good as they can. May sound harsh, but usually you don't want to hear repeated echo on some singers.
