Mine was Hall and Oats - Maneater.

I had been going to shows for a while but had no guts to sing so one day, after a whole lot of liquid courage, I sang some Maneater.

I think it was "Goodbye Girl" by David Gates...or "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro :)

You gotta love the metal/hairband songs. They aren't the easiest to sing. You almost have to bust out the dance moves or the fist pumps along with singing them. You need more energy to sing those songs than a country song. I'm proud of the K-virgins that went the hair band route. That takes some guts...and some liquid courage.

Mine was "Some kind of Wonderful" by Grand Funk at some little bar in Austin on 6th street, and I'll bet I didn't sing karaoke again for almost a year. I actually did it OK and got a decent response. My second and the one the that helped me get over my stage fright (because it was easy for me to do) was "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Steeler's Wheel. Been hooked ever since. Rudy.

was that the one from SBI? I got the backing for it before they made it a real karaoke track. I actually prefer mine, despite not having the backing vocals.

My first one was Elton John's "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues"

and like Ham said, I was hooked. Karaoke Virgin to Karaoke Slut in one easy lesson!

 Oh yea the first time out.... OMG, This was the night the monster was created... Lady Liz had gotten to drink just enough so that my mind was almost num.. Talked me into trying it, and I sang " 16 Tons" the only song that came to mind.. It was so funny, singing ahaed of - and behind the words/music.. I think I was with the words at least twice...LMAO....Tom

Not wanting to be portrayed as a drunk trying to sing and be a star I shunned karaoke for years. I do have SOME good talent. One sun after a dart tournament the young gal doing karaoke was pestering me to sing. I finally said OK I'll do Blood In The Saddle. She gave me an incredulous look and said we dont have that.. That's OK I dont need music.

So with the best imitation of Tex Ritter I drug out the old tune. It was all I could do to keep from laughing looking at the youngsters sitting there and not believing they were hearing this. The old old cowboys were literally falling off their bar stools laughing. Next rotation I sang Friends In Low Places The rest is history.

For the newcomers here the first time I sang in public was 1947 in a 2 room school house in Colorado. The songs were Cool Water and Tennessee waltz.

First karaoke song ever publicly was "Blue Kentucky Girl" by Loretta Lynn/Emmylou Harris. That was SO yesterday, Lmao. I don't think I've ever sang it out live since that night, it was just one I felt comfie enough on to break the ice with. (in those days, the karaoke books were slim pickin's)
