It takes a fairly decent camcorder and lighting to get decent video. Video 1 was shot with practically no lighting and shot in "night" mode (video sucks). Video2 was shot thru a dirty window on a rainy cloudy day. Both with a Canon ZR950 with worst conditions.

Next there are 2 options on audio. An internal mic sucks which requires using recorded out of the mixer. In your case an external mic would be better to get quality audio..

With this

I will set the camera on a tripod, run the video into a laptop and use the remote to record and zoom. . This unit will convert the dv video to digital for using the laptop as a monitor and also has ulead movie software which you can use to make  dvd's. I also have a firewire pcmcia card bus on order which gives a faster rate of video grabbing to the laptop.

Yeah, use a video camera, NOT A WEBCAM.

You may need one that's particularly suitable for low light conditions, or just light your subjects.

I'd look towards one with a hard drive as opposed to MiniDV, for ease of transfer.

POINT: Tell people that they can have/buy (your choice) their videos (on video?) NEXT WEEK.  This will make them come back and allows you to master the DVD's well - with your name/banner before and after.

Also, you may want to record your mixer out - so that you can get a better sound.  Mux this with your video.  Bling!

But make sure you get paid for all this extra!

Oh brother, I hate to even mention this, because videoing singers is such a great thing to do but don't consider putting it anywhere for public viewing - ridiculous copyright issues may blow up in your face. I'll be videoing singers in our venues and burning to DVD and playing them in the venue that evening just for fun, but again, can't sell them a copy of it because you're selling them music you don't own. Playing devil's advocate here because it isn't much different than just burning their singing. I suppose you could put it up on YouTube but I would think you could be the subject of some wanna-be copyright enforcer who could ultimately force you to remove it? Don't know this for sure but in the vein of all the discussion threads on this site re: recording singers, is videoing different?

Especially when the RIAA was going after people that put up karaoke performances of themselves on YouTube.

You are kidding?  I know little of the RIAA/MPAA (as they have no juridiction in the UK) but I have heard they stoop very low!

Highly illegal in the UK. We have our own entertainment police.
The PRS being one of them.
Every council has people who do check on pubs doing entertainment.
The landlord probably won’t allow it anyway because he could loose his entertainment licence.

My server which is Bluehost has very strict polocies about copyrighted material on web sites. However I doubt if they would say a thing about videos of a few of my singers posted on my site.

Hi Guys,

I have just read all your replies and have had a similar idea.

I own a Karaoke bar in Cyprus and really want to add something different to it.

I want to record a singer whilst doing Karaoke and burn it to dvd at the same time. I would also like it to be shown on a big TV I have outside to show people walking by.

Does anyone know if there is a way I can do this along with all equipment and set instructions please.

Hope someone out there can help.

I know about the copyright bits you mentioned, dont worry

Thanks in advance

Daz
