Just wondering how do y'all list your file names on your hard drive ?
Do you list them by artist first then song name. (ex Garth Brooks - Shameless)
Or do you list them by song name first then artist (ex Shameless - Garth Brooks)
Also do you put last name first?
Or none of the above and list them only by disc # and track #?

On the hard drive they are:

(disk - track) artist - song.mp3
(disk - track) artist - song.cdg

[font=verdana] I use the MCG Manager program from CAVS to put songs on the hard drive and it requires track#, song title, artist. I know there are probably better programs out there, but I am used to this one, and have actually learned to live with it’s little quirks. For instance, when I put music into a file it will only let me put 400 tracks in any one file folder, but when Johnny used it he could put as many as he wanted in a folder. ?? Don’t know what he did different than me, but one advantage of limiting the tracks is they come up faster.

If you set them up by (disc-track) artist-song doesn't that make it hard to find on the hard drive when looking for a particular artist or song?

Most karaoke dj's that I have seen running computer do not use the disc # or track # they only go by the artist and song title.

Most karaoke dj's that I have seen running computer do not use the disc # or track # they only go by the artist and song title.

The most common one I have seen is:

DM1111-02 - Artist, The - Song Name, The.zip

DM=disk manufacturer

(Or .cdg and .mp3 if not using zipped files.) This is the default for reading files on most of the importers I have seen, and the default for at least two ripper programs.

Remember too that

Song Name, The - Artist, The - DM

is far from unique. There are multiple versions of songs out there from some manufacturers. For instance, I own two different Chartbuster disks that have George Strait's "One Night At A Time" on it, but the version is different between the two. (And I prefer the newer version from the 3-disk GS compilation.) I know also that the old DK Millenium tracks may differ from the newer Applause and Premier tracks.

Of course sometimes the same disk number will be different, too! The SC8146 I bought in 2006 is different from the vast majority of them out there in Karaoke host collections. (That is a great disk, and one of the most likely to find in a decent collection.)

my file names are coded to the discs I have. All my discs are in three 100 slot cd binder with each disc spot having a # from 1 on up. That way if I ever have to revert to using discs, I stiill can use the same books

for example
142-10 - Brooks, Garth - Shameless (sc)
