C'mon Babs, he's only been posing here for about 2 maybe 3 weeks now, EVERYONE should know what GK stands for. We all refer to him as that. Sheesh, wake & smell what GK shovels....

OK, going to ask again for edification here - how on earth is it that you would deny someone demonstrating their appreciation for the service you provide???? Why be so afraid of the 'bribe tip' when you can simply state you don't do it? Can I guess, then, that you never tip when you go anywhere? Wouldn't want to be your server or waitress or hairdresser, or anyone else who normally depends on tips to supplement the minimum wage their job usually pays. That is not to say I tip for lousy service but I think there is a certain expectation (social etiquette) of a tip. I don't ever expect tips but am VERY, very grateful to those who offer them ... often with a compliment and a smile. Who am I to say 'no! no tips!'

They aren't working for nothing -- I pay them a fair tip.

There are occupations, such as waiter or cab driver, where people work for tips. In fact, waiters *must* report 8% of their income as tips. So they will pay tax on your meal. If you don't tip, you are stealing from them, assuming they give you good service. I sometimes stiff waiters down to 10% if they give me lousy service. But reasonable service wins 15% from me, while really good service can get a real good 25-30% tip.

I don't consider karaoke host to be one of those occupations, though if people were tipping routinely at a venue where a host indicated they were working for tips, I would tip. I have often given a KJ a tip, but I don't feel obligated to.

I tip very well. This is partly in self-interest -- when I walk in the door at a place that knows me, people fall all over themselves giving me good service. I like good service, and am willing to pay for it. I also want karaoke to continue, and I know that the employees have some sayso there. So if they get good tips, they will be in favor of karaoke.

No, I get good service even before I tip. I tip *well* to get *excellent* service.

And you are simply wrong. And cheap besides. I am amazed that anyone deals with you at all, if indeed you practice what you preach. I suspect not though -- many people are much bigger jerks online than they are in real life.

We can sure hope, can't we ... although why someone would intentionally present themselves in that light is totally beyond me. Nevertheless, it is simply Boer-like behavior that GK exhibits. Oh, there, look that one up GK.

Hey---I need to find some places near Pomona to go sing!! Anyone out there know of any?? Also in BURBANK--as Ill be there in mid July!!

Burbank has 2 karaoke institutions - Sardos and Dimples. Both do it 7 nights a week. Only been to Dimples once during off hours, but I've heard there's a lot of attitude there. Sardos is much friendlier, the owner really goes out of his way to make people feel welcome there. And they have a huge book of songs.

Other possibilities are the Big Fish in Glendale, they do it Thursdays and Saturdays. A bit divey, but a fun and friendly place. The Good Nite in North Hollywood on Sunday nights, I've only been to that once but it wasn't bad, don't think it gets too crowded. And if you're feeling especially brave, there's the Bullet on Mondays and Moonshadows on Tuesdays, both in North Hollywood, a gay and a lesbian bar respectively. Both get pretty crowded.

How many times a week do you also say "hey you kids, get off my lawn!"

It must suck being you.

Somehwre in your rambling you mentioned "The world works around rules".

Yes, it does. And thats someone thing my customers enjoy a break from. They are not sorting their bills, they are not doing tax returns, they are not at work - they are out for some fun, a break from the monotony. Escapism.

Wondern what he des ifhen hw goes to a restaurant that adds the tip to the bill. I definitely wouldn;t go with him to one of his usual haunts to eat with him. God knows what the servers do to his food.

Totally forgot about Sardos...only been there once, but I remember I liked it...may have to check it out again....Dimples....avoid, avoid, avoid! HUGE attitude. Overly crowded....unless you are a regular, an exceptionally hawt female, or willing to bribe the KJ, chances are pretty slim you'll get up.

Sorry guys, been on vacation and missed some of this 'interesting' stuff.

First of all, we can be assured that if GK goes to any restaurants on a regular basis, he is getting what he deserves from the wait staff and bartenders- they do not take kindly to being repeatedly stiffed, and will take it out in their own little ways.

I am sure he is also the person that sees a panhandler and yells "GET A JOB!" but then criticizes when they get the only minimum wage job they can in this economy- it isn't his fault after all....

As far as tips go, I carry a tip jar, and put it out to the side every karaoke night. I end up with $1-10 average. It is almost always the same people that just want to show their appreciation. I can understand people not wanting to show appeciation when a show is run by an iron ist, but I digress...

I have read thru this thread, and many others, and have yet to read a comprehensive answer other than "Because I say so" as to why GK will not play a LABELED CDG from an original manufacturerer. Is it that you do not have the capability, or just want to be the hole of a donkey?
