My 6 year old PC died. I had replaced/upgraded all the parts at some points in the past. This time its HDD failure.
I just got a new PC but it is a pain in the behind loosing all my bookmarks and passwords. I can't even remember my password to Photobucket. Now I just have to get a new account and upload my photo from there.

Is there a way to store bookmark/ username and password online so that I can get to it in the even my C drive bust again?

Ps: I have learn my lesson (from previous crash) not to store data in my C drive; so no critical data was lost.

Bookmarks: del.icio.us = really good online bookmarking service = free
Passwords: File I have encrypted with a password I never forget. Sent to myself at GMAIL.

That is the kind of site that interest me. Sending the passwords via email is so obvious, it make me feel :withstupid:

Thanks

No worries, sometimes the simplest options get overlooked.

As for security concerns over emailing my passwords - I have put them into a ZIP file, which has been encrypted with a password I remember but means nothing, it's not a word.

The ONLY way to access an encrypted ZIP is via password. Brute force attacks are the only way. And Brute Force works around dictionaries, in which my password doesn't exist :)

Brute force these days means much more than dictionaries. No password is safe. And not only that, if you are using DES or other (nowadays) trivial encryption, it is really not safe in this day and age of teraflop computers.

Using PGP *is* pretty safe, though. So if you PGP encrypt your passwords and mail them to yourself, you should be pretty good. The attacker then not only has to find your pass phrase, they have to have your secret key file as well.

for my bookmarks, I use favorites, and I keep a copy of that folder zipped in my email. Since yahell can be accessed by any pc, it's fine for recovery purposes.

Easy enough to drag and drop onto another hard drive, and they take up nothin' for storage.

Is brute force no longer based off word-lists and permutations?
