May just be an age thing but I'm not moved by much of the 80's music. I was also married 81 we soon started raising kids. "Yada... yada... yada..."

But I do remember John Cougar Mellencamp

Allowing someone to use their own discs bring in singers too. Personally I don't like cRAP music either. Really surprised you haven't made a rule regarding no rap, you have a rule against/anti just about everything else that can make a show more enjoyable for a customer.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. As religious as you are will you be picking up Iron Maiden...666 The Number Of The Beast? IM is pretty popular all over again in the "80's Return". This was one of their biggest hits.

I think it's funny that the original post that stirred up such a hornet's nest wasn't even about songs from the 80's. It was about a bunch of artists from the 80's putting out new music recently.

I understood your post meant you were disappointed in the style of music that came out in the eighties - mostly the synthasized stuff. Most of these artists don't fall into that category. I can't imagine you disliking Pat Bematar. I don't think you so much hate the eighties as much as a particular type of music that started then.

You know, I want to disagree with this, but I just can't! LOL! I too prefer Heart from the seventies.

Their music in the late eighties was ok, but it did look like they were desperately trying to hold onto the pop scene. A couple of good songs to be sure, but you just can't top "Crazy on You", "Barracuda", "Dog & Butterfly", "Magic Man"...

As for Chicago, I couldn't stand Peter Cetera, so that killed their eighties and nineties music for me!

I think Chicago's best songs were from the 70's, but they had a few decent 80's hits:

Hard to Say I'm Sorry
You're the Inspiration
Hard Habit to Break

It is hard to beat the genius of their earlier songs like

Just You 'N Me
Feelin' Stronger Every Day
Saturday in the Park
Wishing You Were Here
Color My World
Beginnings
Call On Me
etc.

well babs while I admire anyone who can sing rock in that key, I found her unpalatable to listen to really...too screechy...sorry babe but I seriously found little to enjoy bout 80s music. No doubt there are some song and groups and I can think of one R.E.M that I absolutely adored their edgy 80s stuff, cos it was so different from the sythesized crap that was being released. I swoon even now over automatic for the people and I love stypes dark monotone lyrics and voice

Peter Cetera was with Chicago from 67-85 & sang alot of their 70's stuff - wasn't in Chicago in the last half of the 80's or 90's.

I love singing female rock from the 80's. When I first started singing karaoke in 1996, I wasn't familiar with many 80's songs. I was at home raising two young sons and listening to oldies, the 50's through 70's.

When I started buying CDG's in 1997, I bought those that had demo tracks. That's when I started remembering more 80's bands, like The Go-Go's, Bangles, Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper, just to name a few. I started learning the songs from the demos first, then buying the albums to hear the original versions. Many of these artists are sopranos and their songs fit my range well. If I had not started karaoke in the 90's I may not have discovered so much 80's music. Of course, I also enjoy singing songs from other decades as well.

and you are so good at them all Connie...fact is I am not so one tends to gravitate toward stuff that is appealing to listen to, or suits their range if they sing...there is little in the 80s decade that fit either criteria for me
