usually competition is good, but in something driven not only by an economic engine (healthcare), something else has to come into play. dollars and cents can't always decide the fate of someone who desperately needs health care but can't afford it.

it's hard to put a dollar value on a life or a major degradation of somebody's health, but it has been done many times in many societies. there has to be a MUCH better way.

looks like you and Germany agree knight!

The G-8 countries -- the United States, Russia, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Britain -- laid out in a statement ways of cutting their dependence on oil.

They pledged to launch 20 demonstration projects by 2010 on so-called "carbon capture and storage," which would allow power plants to catch emissions and inject them into underground storage spaces.

While that technology is still in its infancy, proponents say it could eventually allow the expanded exploitation of the world's abundant supply of cheap coal without polluting the environment and speeding global warming.

There were clear rifts, however, on how to approach the expansion of nuclear energy. The carefully worded joint statement called for assurances on safety and security of nuclear materials, but several nations said they were enthusiastic about building new reactors.

The International Energy Agency, in a report issued last week, estimated the world would have to construct 32 new nuclear power plants each year from now until 2050 as part of an effort to cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent.

"I think we're on the verge of a new nuclear age and that will be a positive thing for the world," said John Hutton, British secretary of state for business enterprise and regulatory reform.

Germany, however, said it would not join the effort. Jochen Homann, Germany's economics minister, said Berlin was sticking to its decision to phase out nuclear power.

i've got my sights set on electric cars when solar/rechargable batteries get good enough to allow cars to go 300mi to a charge on a regular basis even on cloudy days. and gotta have recharging stations at regular intervals. it would be sweet to plug your car in at home and have a "full tank o gas"!!

i've got a feeling if enough cars ran on natural gas the price would go up just like diesel did.

I agree. Completely!

That's what I love about Solar Collectors and Wind Generators. Those are untapped, and you can put whatever your zoning allows you to put in!

My next project is to take either a Ford Ranger and convert it to electric, or build a replica car and make that electric from the beginning!

my buddy lives in flagstaff AZ, and the sun is so powerful and all-season that he believes he can run all his loads with solar. i think he may be right. AZ is required to buy power he is not using, so even if he cant totally power all his loads 24/7, he may come out ahead because when his loads are low he will be selling power. pretty cool, i think all the panels will be half price cause o subsidizing

Even the Saudis are saying the price of oil is unjustifiably high. It appears the blame is with some banks, speculators, and others who are using world events to raise the price of oil where there is no need of.

The good news is he can sell off ALL his power during the day, and use the grid power at night and during the day, and come out smelling like a rose.

Daytime rates are in some cases 3-4 times that of night rates!

It is my right as an American and a Marine Corp veteran, to take my motorhome and boat to the lake if I choose, and can afford it

The reports about usage not going down is rediculous. If you are a regular at Lake Havasu, and have been there this year, you would notice a huge reduction of the normal crowd. I would say there is probably only 1/3 the normal crowd, and many of the boats have For Sale signs on them, due to many loosing their jobs, and the cost of gas.

The fix is Obama. He's not mad about prices being so high, only that it happened so quick. With him we can look forward to gas prices going much higher, because we should feel guilty for being Americans, and our lifestyles

Felix the KJ

Why be a Republican, cause not everyone can be on Wellfare

do we REALLY want to get into a political argument here? Cause Obama is only telling people what they want to hear. He's a junior senator with almost ZERO experience in politics.

Well, we got a guy in there now with a brain ravaged by drugs and alcohol. We had a guy in there diagnosed with Alsheimers, and they say once it's diagnosed, you've probably had it for 20 years by the time they first discover you have it.... ...doesn't take anything but money to be president, besides, after the guy in there now.....who the he!! would wanna be president....generation, after generation is going to have to pay back the tab he ran up.....and Clinton?...they say she owes as much as 50 million dollars from her failed bid....is this the kind of financial responsibility we want from a president....keeps a husband that constantly cheats on her through out her marriage.....not a role model for my daughters, thank you......no experience is better than the experience I've seen put to use by most leaders.... :vomit:
