First of all, Thanks for the support in the past for questions I've already asked here.

It was suggested by Knight Show and a few others that I try AudioGrabber, which I now have.I was trying to rip my first CDG tonight, and when I clicked on the penquin for track names, I got a (disc not found) message.It is a Priddis,#1538G, (Merle Haggard) which I would think would be fairly popular, so I just wonder if I am doing something wrong.
The other thing I wanted to ask is, does anyone have recomendations on settings, such as bit rate, ripping speed or anything else? Since I am starting from scratch I want to have everything set right from the start if possible, so as to avoid more problems later.
By the way, I do have Compuhost, (which I havn't tried yet) just in case it makes any difference in what I am asking here.

For setting:

bitrate: The highest possible; 320kbps. In my case I go for .wav
Ripping speed: don't hurry, the faster you go the more likely there be errors.

Unfortunately not all discs are in the free database that audiograbber uses for track naming and of the majority that are you should always double check for accuracy.
This is where you do your "civic duty" by manually typing in the artist and track info for yourself and also to submit to the free database for the next person to rip that disc.




On bit rate most would say 160 bit or greater, preferrably 192 bit, some may even say 320 bit.
If I were to start all over, knowing what I know now and as cheap as hard drives are now, I would rip to wave and cdg files, (something to consider)

for anyone riping CB 60366 (country aug 07) that one was the first I submited .hopefully its right. I actually only riped one track off that one for a while waiting for somebody to submit it before I figured out how to do it myself. its working with My sax n dottys just fine.

Appreciate the advice Jian, you and RLC share the same answer for my questions. I will go with WAV, but just out of curiosity what is the difference between MP-3 and WAV?

wav prolly 30+ mb whereas mp3 3mb its all to do with size mainly cos your average punter wont hear any difference if you rip to an mp3 at 128, and definately wont hear difference if you rip to a higher bitrate

.wav is CD quality but you pay with HDD space. 10mb +/- per one min of song. If bit rate of 128 is good enough, why don't music label produced cd at that bit rate?

Before you rip to wav file, make sure your player will play them. It is my understanding that not all do and that portability of mp3 will probably be better since mp3 is pretty standard nowadays. In the future, you may want to switch players for some reason, and if you do, you will need wav capability if that is what you have. Probably not a big deal, but something to think about.

Fair point. However .wav could easily be converted to mp3 if necessary(and 1 could even still keep a backup in .wav format)



In a noisy bar I would agree with your statement, but if you are just starting out with the ripping process and considering how inexpensive harddrive space has become, - why not rip to the best quality available?
