If there are any oldtimers that are familiar with this macro assembler and machine language programming and know how to apply it to XP please let me know. This is a wild goose chase.

Holy Moley that's going a little prehistoric!

I used to be able to do some very basic machine language programming, but it is soooo long ago that I wouldn't be able to help you much. However, I guess all chipsets would have their own individual instruction sets that a high level language would break down to. I would say that as a first step, you would have to be able to obtain the machine level instruction sets for the processor you are programming for.

The concept of XP and most late model OSs, is to isolate the code from the hardware..

By directly addressing the hardware with masm, you risk defeating this protection..

What are you trying to do?

I would like to gain control of my computer with efficiency. I would like to download a trial software the doesnt need immediate access to the internet after installation and doesnt need to phone home everytime it is launched. I would like to launch Outlook express and not sit there for minutes like it is reporting everything on my HDD to big brother. Anything past DOS 6.o from windows 3.1 becomes slower and slower after installation The only OS Microsoft designed was 2K Pro. The rest are inefficient and crash with a full workload. They cant even handle USB yet without problems. With ME and they quit using DOS for a kernel it has gone downhill every since I could take a 8086 cpu with 256 ram and run any karaoke software going. We started with 98 SE and CAVS WE could not record without audio dropouts. The threshold was a 1.2 GB cpu and 512 MB ram. Then Sonar 3 and multitracking would work. But you still had to reboot every now and then to free up recourses Windoze sucks big time

I use basic and a ROM cartridge so I can play blackjack, this system gets 4 colors. Can't wait to get rid of this b&W television, and hook the 12 inch color set up to the 75 ohm switch.. Some cool backgrounds with this new Pong game ! I heard 320 baud half-duplex modems will be out soon so folks can join each others stationary bbs's such as Fidonet, efnet and Undernet ! These computers will soon be interactive. Has anyone bought one of those TRS-80 coco 16's yet ? I'm curious what the difference between expanded basic and basic is, and what is ans cobal ?
