I don't think this is technical enough for the hardware software forum , but will repost it there if you all think it is.

Question :

What's a decent CD+G player with key change capability.





I think they 11 step is the one that covers it all, so if they have them with only 3 or
four key steps that would not cover it for me.

I do not need graphics, but the back tracks I buy will usually be CD+G.
If I could just get a decent CD player with all the key changes available , that would
be cool too.

The reason , I need key change is , because they put out lot's of karaoke, and
general back tracks in easy sing keys instead of original keys.
I only choose Covers that are easy for me to do in the original keys, so if I get one that's a 1/2 step off in either direction , it's of no use unless I can get it back to the
original key.

you dont say if it is simply for home use or commercial.
If its just a home setup, I would look at doing it on computer and using something like winamp with the pacemaker plugin. It will change keys and tempo etc
you will also need the cdg plugin if you plan to rip your discs to computer or the cdg disc plug in if you plan to play your discs from cd-rom

Is there a price range you're trying to work with?

The VocoPro DKP10G sells for right around $100 bucks less shipping and features
an 11-step digital key changer with the option of using the remote control or from the front panel. Also has two microphone inputs with echo effects.

I've seen that exact model and figured it would be about right, I'm not looking
for something incredible , just competant , I bet that'll work for me.

I wasn't sure if vocopro was a good name, I have no idea what is good or bad out
there.

I'll be running that through a stereo set up and singing through my 600 watt pa along with guitar through and guit amp.

I wouldn't mind something in the $200 range either , but I think that's about as
far as I'd want to go on a Cd+g player.........

Don't know about that particular model, but I use the DVG-777K player to
display DVDs at my shows. I used a CAVS-203G, but it would overheat and
cause issues, so I switched and have been pleased with the performance.
I know other KJ/DJs that use a variety of VocoPro gear and I haven't heard
any one of them complain. Good luck !!

I assume you are doing a one man show. And as such; here is the solution.

1. Not all manufactures get the key wrong; just look for those that have the key right for the song you want to sing.

2. Rip the songs to your pc in .wav; load it to any audio editing program and change the key from there. save it to .wav and burn to a new cd. You will have a compiation of all your songs in the right key in a few cds.

I doubt I could bump up in quality without adding tons of features that I don't need or of course want to pay for.

1 yes I do a one man show.

2 it's difficult to even find the songs I want , let alone get the key I'm after, I have yet to find a seller that states whether the songs are in original keys, though some have samples available so that helps.

3 I'm a dork with all the wav file work , and hate using recording software. I should work with it, but I just hate it..............tedious.

I wouldn't use that model onstage. I had it originally but it was so susceptible to vibrations from the PA that it would constantly skip.

The last player I bought was the Vocostar DVG-399K, a DVD player with karaoke functions too. It was under $100 and worked pretty well, although it had problems with some minor brands (Sing It Now for one). One some tracks from those it stutters just a bit at either the start of end when the title or credit screen appears if the music is still going.

How did you have it mounted? I have my mixer, effects panel, AV switch. and
players in a carpeted GenzBenz case and bolted to the 19" rails. The amplifier
is in a separate case because it weighs 65 pounds by itself. The only disc skip
or graphics freeze I see is when somebody brings up a homemade CD+G,
or in the case of the CAVS player; overheating in a hot venue. (If I had more
room in the GenzBenz, I could fashion a fan panel for circulation I suppose.)

I tried everything. The slightest vibration or bump would affect playback. Eventually I put it on a piece plywood on 1" foam and that helped some. But it was so delicate that I gave up on it.

The two DVD players that I used after that could take anything and still play... bumping, jarring... I could even get away with placing them on a sub if I had to for room setup.

I can see where that would be a problem when doing a show. I sure wish that
Pioneer would manufacture a two-drawer DVD/Karaoke player based on their
old PD-V10G chassis. That has to be one of the finest pieces of DJ gear I've
ever seen and a real workhorse.

In fairness I should add that my experience with VocoPro is only with this specific player, which is their budget one. Their more expensive units could be much better. And probably are.

No offense, but Vocopro would be my last choice. If you use the search engine for the site you will see most people on the forum suggest anything, but Vocopro.

I can only give advice on CDG players I have personally used. RSQ MV-333 Triple Tray or the Pioneer PD V10G would be my suggestions to use. Both are work horses. These are vintage players you can find on e-bay for around $200 or less.

I would think for what you stated the use is for possibly going pc like Morgan suggested would be the best though.

Most of the newer players in my opinion don't work as well. They load slow and have technical difficulties the older players don't. The manufacturing companys have tried to change their players to include the use of SCDGs etc.. and in the process brought down the quality of the players. That is why I suggested the vintage players.

As for not being able to post your topic - did you try hitting the submission button after it gave you the message that there were other titles similiar to yours? You can still post it. I wouldn't use any of the new players out today for pro shows honestly which is why I went the computer route & transferred all my discs to hard drive.

I love to do that instead of carrying 12 Case Logic boxes of 60 discs each.

Well most of the newer computers PC/laptops are more than adequate for hosting karaoke shows. I use MTU Hoster www.mtu.com for my hosting program. But there are others that are just as effective. Compuhost, Powerkaraoke to name a couple other.
