Guess I could pry a piece loose and have a look-see? They may very well have insulated it. But with how loud it is outside the garage, I'm thinking they didn't. (may as well swing the doors wide open with how loud you can hear the music outside) I have 1/2 acre back yard as well, and you can hear the music across the whole property. I just don't belong in town. Quote: Actually bass will penetrate more In the corners hang a drape so as to eliminate the 90 degrees and make 2 45's. I don't want to have to "box in" the music area to just one end... it's long, and narrow. I can't imagine I'd have very good sound if I had to face my speakers, plus all the guitars amps and stuff.... the narrow width of the room towards the house. And I'm sure the neighbors would prefer to hear me sing as to hear the speakers feedback. (uh.. maybe) Quote: If all else fails, turn that noise down Charmin!!!
Yeah........ right. Sure.
I think you know me a bit better than that;)
By the way, tomorrow night there's is a thing at West Coast Bank (outside, weather permitting) - they are doing a cancer fund raiser, $6 for dinner and free karaoke. (Rich is running it) Be there or be square, starts at 6. ![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

I'm not understanding what the problem is with facing the speakers as you're singing. That's how you had it at your old house and that's how you get the least amount of feedback -- having the mics aimed away from the speakers. Of course I've only seen the room once and I don't have it's appearance memorized.
Where are they positioned at your place right now?

Polystyrene is a cheap way to go in the yuk.
It reflects sound so you wont need it turned up as much.
Also it will keep the heat in.

Of course I've only seen the room once and I don't have it's appearance memorized. Where are they positioned at your place right now? Right now.... they are kinda cockeyed across the room. If I try to set it up JUST like I had it in the old house, well, the left speaker would be smackdab in front of the back door (and the bathroom door, they are on that corner of the room. Actually, I only have one bare corner (no doors) in the room and that's where I put the whole setup. (computer desk/ mixer n' stuff) I can't even get it very loud how it is now, cause I get feedback. I can stand there, touch one speaker, and probably.. if I stretched out.... kick the other one. As I told you per email. I don't WANT to compromise on sound in the room just because I'm worried about the noise leaking outside- the neighbors are *not* my first priority for my music room, I just don't want to be rude. If I can make the room a bit more soundproof, then I can set it up how I want. You know me Don, I'm not going to sing, or record, at the decible of an old lady's car stereo... I want to be able to do what I want in there and not worry that it's bugging someone else. Really, seriously, I should have just continued looking for a place out of town where I wouldn't have these issues. Right now, I still have one end of the garage still full of boxes I have to go through this weekend.. so I'm sure they're helping to mute the sound a bit already. What's it gonna sound like when that room gets emptied out? Quote: Polystyrene is a cheap way to go in the yuk. It reflects sound so you wont need it turned up as much. Also it will keep the heat in. Okay. I'll look into that... not sure what that is, but I imagine it's just a google away. TY Quote: Seems you had fewer probs when you were using Audition/Cool Edit

I've tried toning myself down. Trust me Jian, not a good answer, if I have to play/sing quietly- why bother at all? I don't even have it NEAR as loud as what you're probably thinking... the way my speakers are placed at the moment, I can't, I'd get feedback. I just don't like the thought that anyone in their yards (or in their house with windows open) can hear me.
I'll take it you've tried polystyrene? I was thinking of that thick foam stuff (like you get to redo couch cushions?) and cutting a piece to fit windows, maybe make some kind of removable drape things for the doors? Hell, I don't want to go all out remodeling. Perhaps I should wait until I actually GET a complaint? I'm not doing it late night, even on weekends... but even during the day, I don't want the whole quiet neighborhood hearing me singing. And my neighbors on that side have 4 young children. If I had a get together with friends, even on a friday or saturday night, I'm not sure they'd appreciate the music coming from my garage until 2 or 3 in the morning. Gawd, I hate living in town. ![Going Mad :madgo:](./images/smilies/madgo.gif)

Most of what your neighborhood hear will be the LF, ie the bass. It is easy to trap/absorbed the HF and most of the mid. What have been sugested so far will to lower the leakage of the mid and hi. Those sugestion are acoustic treatment rather than sound proofing.
To sound proof a room, you need a room within a room.

Jian, what's a good way to trap the bass frequencies in this kind of situation? Or is there any way other than the "room within a room" idea. That's not really possible for her.
