Currently I'm using an SKB DJ case to house my equipment. It's got a slant top for my rackmounted mixer and 6 spaces underneath which currently hold a 1space furman power strip / 2 spaces for my rackmounted RSQ cdg player / 2 spaces for my CRown XLS power amp.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=544726

The problem with this case is the OUTPUT LOCATION from the amp don't allow enough room to plug directly into. I've been able to bypass this with using an adapter from Nuetrik to 1/4.

I want to get down to a smaller 4 space case. Mixer still on top / furman power strip / dbx compressor / power amp. ( removing the cdg player)

This case would work put the amp sits right against the back

The problem is the molded 4space case from SKB allows NO room to plug into the amp. I've thought about buying another amp that has inputs in the center of the back which would work... But I like the Crown and don't want to spend $$$$ when I don't have to.

What CASE are you using and do you have your power amp in the same case or is it seperate ????

Yeah, welcome to my world. I've been trying to find a case that works for me, no luck. I am going to end up building something. I use a 20 on wheels and a 10 for the amps, but I want to do something different....MrD

Over the past few years I've tried it all ..... seperate cases for mixer and amp
rolling gi rigs / purchased some wooden cases and by the time I had them loaded up I COULDN'T PICK IT UP :D :D

I really want to go simple - easy set up / easy tear down /easy storage and transport.

I think the 4 space DJ shuttle from SKB will work if ai get the right amp with the connections towards the center ---otherwise there is no room --_WHO DESIGNS THESE THINGS ANYWAY ?

 Jam,

I have the EXACT same case. I also have a Crown (402) amp. What I did was "hang" the amp up the top with my mixer. Down below I have the Power Strip, the Pioneer V10 cdg player, and my DOD eq. It made it a little more balanced (weight wise) for carrying, plus the speaker jacks are readily accessable.

I clicked on this topic because I thought I'd get some ideas. LMAO It sounds like it is a universal problem. The venue where I leave my equipment I purchased a home shelving unit and just cover it at the end of the night with a heavy duty grill cover. I know it sounds lame, but it looks nice and is functional.

My main problem with cases is the sure weight of them. They are sometimes just as heavy as the equipment. Aaarg ! Because I am a one person operation and a weak girl. Transporting heavy equipment is almost impossible. When I do outside parties I piece it apart mixer/amp, player 1, player 2 etc... and have a portable wire like shelving system. It sounds like a pain when in reality it takes me maybe 30 minutes for a full setup.

I know I'm a bit off the subject here, but I just wanting to point out heavy road cases aren't always necessary. :D

Lonnie - custom built ---I'll look into that any suggestions for a good source ?

Babs: Ideally I could get by with a powered mixer - I have no problems with just using the powered mixer and some speakers. I don't like the fact of wires and plugs all over the place using just a powered mixer and my laptop. With my current case with power strip --everything gets plugged and tucked inside and then the back cover is put on leaving a more "NEAT" look . If I change my setup Thursdays to where I'm setting up against the wall I might just try the powered mixer at thei place ?

Yeah, I've been looking at case....OUCH they are expensive. My amp case is now about 250lbs with all 3 amps in it. It's all I can do to lift it. It's getting split up for a 2nd spare ig, but I wanted to test it out before I do that. Like I mention, I'm pry going to build something to get close to what I want, then maybe I'll research the custom built. I'm not exactly sure yet. I don't want to spend all that money and not have exactly what I want. Good Luck...MrD

I have bought several cases from here. They built their own so probably could build a custom (if not already have something you want).

[font=verdana] Babs, I have the same problem with weight, as I too am a “weak girl” add to that my age, and the surgery on my left shoulder last summer left me with very little strength in that arm.

I have a Gator slant top case for my mixer and my player. Couldn’t put the amp in there, though there is plenty of room, I couldn’t lift it if I had. I bought two different cases for the amp. First was a Gator soft case, amp didn’t fit front to back, then bought a 6U case that I was told only weighed about 10lbs. (actual weight 27lbs.) As my amp weighs 36lbs, that wouldn’t work. Finally purchased a 2U case just for the amp. That works but with the amp in it, it’s at the limit of what I can manage to lift. I wish now I had bought the smaller slant top case, I have a lot of wasted space in there. I tried to keep each item under 50lbs, the amp case and amp are a little over that. I wish I could do a full sized road case like my son has, but there is no way I could manage it. One advantage he has is everything is already hooked up, he just has to plug in to the main power source and he’s ready to go, or at least that was true before he added the extra mixer, amps, equalizer, crossover..etc.

We, us “weak girls” are really at a disadvantage with the weight of things being what they are. I dropped one of my 12” speakers yesterday trying to get it on the stand. Thank goodness for the durability of Peavey speakers.
