When I would find a show with an available TV and not a single one was being used for the show, I felt it was pure laziness and/or cheapness on the part of the host.

I've already presented all of the reasons I feel that at least one TV should be provided for the audience. Someone suggested, nonetheless, that a TV should not be set up for karaoke over the head of the singers, because it will distract from the singers' efforts. As I've had time to further consider this premise, I have to take exception to that conclusion.

- A TV over the stage actually helps to direct attention towards the "stage" and the singers

- Chances are if you don't have karaoke feed to the TV over the stage the bar will have something else playing that will surely distract from the singers

I've seen situations where the hosting company just couldn't figure out HOW to hook up to an available television. With all the new types of tv's out there, a person really has to do their homework and carry a selection of adaptors to allow hooking up to any available television set. As far as the audience viewing tv over the singer's head, sometimes that is unavoidable as usually places will position big screens in a focal area of a room, and that is usually where karaoke would be set up as well. Doesn't seem to ever bother anyone where we do shows, but we also now run a connection to a big screen in more of the main area of the room so anyone can see it from anywhere if they're interested. And all you have to do is look around, especially if it's a new song that is being sung, to notice all the heads facing the monitor. People are curious, want to see what the words 'really are' and become familiar with a song without actually having to put themselves on the line by singing it when they don't really quite ready to do it.

Well, Babs thinks the answer is a "no brainer"

I'll simply ask, what's the benefit to not having a screen for the audience?
So...I'm still confused

As a singer, not that anyone pays atention..lol, it's easier to hide mistakes, and changes I might want to make in the way a song is sung.
I like the audience to sing along with me, but some singers may not, and they are less likely to sing along, without the extra screen.
Some owners(sports bars for example) like their screens to show sporting events whenever possible, and use karaoke like it's a pool table....just a part of the entertainment, trying to lure customers desiring diverse entertainment.
As a KJ, if the screen is already there, it would add virtually no extra work for me, and I would prefer to use it.

Im not interested in getting in on the argument here but, I was wondering if anyone else carry a wireless rf sender / reciever for sending the siginal across the room when you can not run a cord. It seems to me that around here most of the kjs have one , but do not always use it. I use mine every week. some day when I get time and my stage area gets set up properly hopefully I can get a cord run. the bar was remodeled right before I started, but they had never planned for karaoke. there is also no stage yet, but the owner and I have talked about it. I might even pony up to build an 8 x 8 portable stage and leave it there unless I need it for another show. but the need for an actual stage is another subject

I have one that has only RCA jacks, and one that hooks up to the computer with usb, VGA, and RCA together..........I use them only if I have to, and for what they actually do, they are pretty remarkable.......great for sending feed out to the smoking room, in places where you can't smoke.....it'll go 100 ft......maybe more....through walls, depending on what they're made of......inexpensive too

Personally, I don't believe that the use of a 2nd screen (or multiple screems) will really make or break the Karaoke show (and people that have said if they don't see more than 1 screen set up for Karaoke are just acting spoiled if they think that's going to ruin their evening).

Thank you for your social commentary.

And your point being????? I don't understand your sarcasm here (at least that's what I'm picking up from you without hearing the tone in your voice). Are you telling me that you can't go out to a Karaoke show and have a good time just because YOU can't see what the Singer on stage is singing?????

I can have a good time doing a lot of things. I don't try and tell other people they are spoiled for feeling a certain way, though. That doesn't sound like a good time to me.

Someone did in fact feel the lack and mention they liked it better when they could see the list of singers coming up and the lyrics. I apologized and told them I would try to have it next time. I didn't suggest they were spoiled to their face, and I didn't feel that way. I felt I didn't put on quite as good a show. It is better when you can see the list of upcoming singers, and it is nice to be able to see the lyrics so you can sing along or anything else.

So what I don't like is the putdown of people for complaining about something. Of course if someone told you that it ruined their evening, it would say a lot about them that their evening was so easily ruined. But I don't think anyone was really suggesting that it could have that kind of power.

And from what you just posted in response, it does not appear that it ruined the evening of the one person who approached you. He just stated that he missed it. I specifically stated that if the lack of multiple screens is going to ruin your evening, then you are just acting spoiled. I never stated that I would say that to someone's face, so don't go putting those words in my mouth. My exact words were, "Personally, I don't believe.... " ("Personally" being the same thing as IMO).

There are far worse things that happen at a Karaoke show that would ruin my evening, 1 of them being how a Rotation is run (unfairly), and another would be a lousy sound system. Wired Mics vs cordless mics don't phase me. A Kj who won't take my personal discs won't ruin my evening... It may inhibit it, but I've stated before that I would stay and make the best of the night (but it would be a factor in why I might not return to that show).

Now, you mention things like having the current Rotation flash across the screen for all to see. That's nice for those that are PC operated and can do that (and I can see where the Singers would like to see that displayed). However, not everyone is PC operated. I'm not.

And by the way, I NEVER disagreed with the fact that having a 2nd/multiple monitor/s in use would be an enhancement to the show. You took one small portion of my original post and quoted from it (and omitted the other half of the post). That omission takes my statement out of context. If you didn't like my original comment, you could have said so in the first place... without the sarcasm!!!

Apparently you dislike sarcasm as a putdown as much as I dislike your type of strawman putdown. Both are indirect.

I will agree to try and treat you better. I hope that you will agree to treat the people you are putting down better.
