[font=verdana] I visited another KJ in my area Saturday night that was running 2 Peavey 15's on stands with one of these subs on the floor. It really added a lot of fullness to the sound. I have the following:

CAVS 203 G player
VocoPro PKJ9090 mixer/preamp
Behringer EP 2500 amp
2- Peavey Impulse 12" speakers

Would this sub work well with my present system, and what would be the best way to hook everything up? They weigh just a little over 33lbs, so the weight would be within my limits.

I was considering the Peavey PR sub a few months ago. I went to both Sam Ash and Musician's friend to hear them and neither place has them on display, too cheap, I don't think they want to sell them. Then I had people try to talk me out of them saying they weren't very good. Finally I broke down and got a pair of the Electro voice SB122 subs. The Peavey PR are about $220 each, the Electro Voice are about $350 each. I can tell you that if you can afford a bit more money, the SB122 pumps out some bass and will last for many years. As with any passive sub you will need a decent amount of power and for best sound quality you will need a crossover/EQ. The the EV you can probably get away with buying only one, they put out a lot. The EV SB122 is small and weighs just under 40 pounds. It will easily fit in the back seat of a car, in fact three or four will fit. You can lift one with one hand. It looks almost identical to the EV SX100 speaker which I also own, it's just a wee bit heavier. With those speakers I can cover large rooms with hundreds of people. If I crank it up I get asked to turn it down every time. Now I don't even crank it up anymore.

I have the PR Sub and I am happy with it. I was in the market for the smallest, lightest sub I could get.

I run a pair of PR-10 tops and a single PR-Sub. It cranks out excellent sound for karaoke, driven with the proper amount of power. I am sure a heavy DJ gig would find it wanting in low-end chest-pounding thump, but that isn't really what I want. (Although I have packed the dance floor every time I have turned it up.)

The PR-Sub weighs 33 pounds. The PR-10s weigh 21 each. They and all my (relatively major amount of) gear fit in my Mercury Grand Marquis with room to spare.

I went to a well-mixed gig with Mackie SRM-450s tonight (no sub) and I think my speakers sound quite competitive, and better on the low end.

WRT the EP2500, that is the amp I use to push them. I put the PR-10s in mono on one channel, and the PR-Sub on the other channel.

Running in mono, putting both mains on one channel and the sub on the other channel sounds like the best way to go. I'm sure that EP2500 has plenty of power for the two speakers and one sub. Probably sounds great and can crank really loud if necessary. For Karaoke one sub to make things sound fuller and richer is probably all that most people will ever need.

If I had a trailer or a van where I could roll things on, I would do things a lot differently. But once I made the decision to go car-based, then the PR-Sub looked like the way to go. I have been real happy.

I was really tempted to get the PR subs because of the price, but I was afraid of buying something without hearing it. I had heard the Electro Voice and knew they were very good. It sounds like they're actually heavier than the Peaveys. As I go along I realized that most people don't need a trailer. For most venues and most sized parties you can fit everything in a minivan, even a lighting truss, stands, par lights etc.
