Hello all..

I got a friend who sing's a lot of Karaoke, and wanted me to ask a few questions out there to people.

1. Is it legal to record yourself singing a karaoke song and then sell cd's to promote your singing? (Just to people at the shows)

1a. Are there any ways around this?

2. Can you put an internet site online to promote your singing?

2a. With a website promoting yourself, is it ok to put song lists of the songs that you sing?

2b. Is it ok to put sound clips online so people can hear your singing?



Any help is greatly appreciated.

1a. Yes, obtain the proper licensing per song recorded.
2. Sure as long as you aren't using copyrighted material.
2a. Yes.
2b. Yes as long as it isn't copyrighted material ie your own music.

OK, with that in mind let me rephrase the question..

He is only using songs on karaoke cd's that others have the copyright too.. He doesn't have any of his own songs that he sings..

Is it ok for him to put the song list up on the site? or can he get into trouble for that too....

my idea of breaking copyright is that if he puts an audio clip of the song on the site, but he is ok to put the songs that he sings up there.

I don't think there is a problem with it unless you specify a certain manufacturer's version. Check with the Karaoke media manufacturers.. personally I really don't know the answer to that one.

Yeah I don't think there is any problems at all putting "just a list of songs you sing". Now if you started putting the lyrics up or recorded versions of the songs, then you are technically in violation.

Hold up a minute--Don't we do exactly that right here in the singers showcase? Record songs and then put them up on the web?

It is to the Admin's understanding (of KS). So it has been posted earlier... That being NOBODY is selling or downloading the songs from this site and SO that there "shouldn't" be a problem. The ONLY reason I haven't posted anything is I haven't had the time or had a verson that has fit the perameters of the file sizes. Otherwise I'd have 5 songs up there already.

Sorry folks to disappoint ya. I guess Ron and Barb are tho few lucky ones so far.. Ron more lately...
