Am I reading something wrong or is PHM is also offering mp3+g downloads for their monthly releases ??? at the SAME PRICE as the actual CDG ?
Shouldn't the downloaded releases be less expensive ??

Well now, one would think that would be the case. However, if it's like the rest of the new tech, you'll get less for more money......MrD

Where is their site now days.
stellarrecords.com is old and outdated by about 6 months & pophitsmonthly.com brings you to their old singer of the month page. Neither are updated.

Well it would make it easier if tracks were already ripped, IDd, and labeled.
I'd like to check out the site. Where?

I posted a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. Tony from Stellar called me to ask how they could help CAVS users by making thier brand more CAVS friendly. These are on a disk. Kind of like a data CD. They are ripped and ready to be placed on a HDD. Karaoke dot com is the only place to get these disks, for now. They are going through some changes and will be offering these data CD's perminantly.
I think it's great.

OK, so, what format is the CDG file of the Stellar MP3+G's? Is it the standard CDG that computers use or the CAVS CDG. They are completely different.

They are different if you are talking about the JB-99. The JB-199 and the kjdeluxe program run with the same type of mp3+g format that laptop systems use. The JB-199 converts the .cdg file to an .ncg file upon installation to the machine.
The updates that they have now are the MP3+G format of data CD so no ripping, just transfer to your HDD and you're ready to rock, so to speak.
I use the CAVS KJDeluxe program, it will read .mcg (CAVS JB-99 format,) .cdg, inx, and Super CDG files. These type of disks can be used by CAVS users and laptop users alike, that's what I told Tony.
He also stated that the metadata with the discs will make it so that the songs can be installed without typing the song name and artist info.
Also, Lon, These releases are being labeled as "Sing It Now Karaoke," but with the quality of the stellar service. Tony told me that "Sing It Now" has license to more songs than Stellar, so they are pulling the Wal-Mart "Sing It Now" discs and labeling the new stuff under the name for licensing reasons.
Hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know.

It's interesting, they do not mention CAVS at all. They say the releases are for 'Laptop Only' giving the indication they are standard mp3g files - in my eyes.
I know they went to Sing It Now, but they aren't even listing under Stellar Records anymore, it was another record company listed on the last disc I got. Just said 'powered by PHM'.

Anyone out there have any of the Pop Hits Monthly brand? I'm looking to compare them 'quality wise' to the Top Hits Monthly brand. MrD

They do not mention CAVS because they released June, before they made a decision whether or not to convert the songs on a disk to mp3+.mcg for the CAVS users.
I told him that would be a waste of time and money. CAVS users can convert the mp3+g disk to CAVS format.
He took my suggestion and squashed the disk for the CAVS market.

Actually I prefer the PHM over the THM 9 out of 10 times. Especially in their rock/pop.

Not that you can't convert the cavs file into a useable mp3g that any computer program that reads them will work, they just need to make it harder apparantly. They just need to keep it in a mp3g based release. They are going to be cutting their profits if they just release to CAVS users at least without making the same disc available in a standard cdg at minimum, they aren't a majority by any means. FAR more computer users out there and most home users still use disc based systems.

Country or rock, either one, I think. I will tell you that my main experience with THM is out singing at places that won't play my disks, but I have done that frequently. PHM is much better on the songs I sing, which are mostly country. I also can watch others do pop, and never do I hear a THM and think, "boy that's better than my PHM version".

I like PHM songs a lot too. DK and SD are the two brands I frequently dislike.

That's funny. I detest SD, but I love DK. I think the music for DK is usually quite good, but I know that a lot of people hate the pan flute.

Hate is far too mild a word. Unless the song HAS a pan flute in it (I'm singing Zamfir!) there shouldn't be a pan flute or anything even remotely sounding like a pan flute anywhere in the mix. Life is too short to sing bad discs and that midi "guide track" crap is the quickest way to ruin what otherwise might be a decent disc.

Different strokes for different folks -- it doesn't bother me. The music and production values of DK far exceed THM and any other brand short of SoundChoice or Chartbuster, in my opinion.
