I read this forum daily, and I have collected much information to setup my home karaoke system. Thanks to everyone here. I have a few questions still but before that I will post my planned system:

Yamaha MG124C
Behringer B212a - powered speakers

In rack (4 rack space):
Furman power conditioner
DriveRack PX for powered speakers
Lexicon effects processor
Wireless mic system

Notice I didn't opt for the separate amp because I want to make the system as portable as possible. An external amp will add to the weight of the rack.

I'm not going to get everything at once. I think I will get the mixer, speakers, and the lexicon first and then add the rest slowly. Do you think I should add the driverack first instead?

Would this setup be sufficient for home use or is it overdoing it?

Is the DriveRack equalizer enough or should I add an external one?

I haven't decided on a wireless system yet. What do you guys think of the vocopro 4 mic system (UHF-5800 or 5805). I know Shure is the best but too expensive especially I'm not going to use the system professionally.

I don't think it's overdoing it, but I am a nut.

It would be a killer home setup, and even suitable for gigging out. If you added an external powered sub, you could fill a pretty good-sized bar or ballroom. You can definitely do a party at your local church or club and do a darn good job of it.

It probably is overdoing it, but if you can afford it, it will be a lot of fun. It is about what I would pick if I had to start over from scratch. I own and use most of those items.

I am not a VocoPro fan, but that mic setup is one of their best products. If you want wireless without breaking the bank, it is not a bad choice.

Go with the MG124CX and you will have the effects built in eliminating the need for the external Lexicon.



Again if you get the mixer with the effects built in, you won't need the Lexicon - saving a little money that could be used toward something else.



This setup would make a very nice home system, i'd personally opt for a better speaker system, but other than that it will kick!
The Driverack is more than enough.

Since the Lexicon is not needed because the board has built in effects, what else do you think I should add to the system?

I will try to look for a better powered speaker system, but I guess the Behringer's are good bang for the buck (if they last of course)

I wanted a rackable wireless system. I like the better brands like AKG, shure, etc, but I can't find a good rackable one. Any recommendations?

Well the model I referenced has built in effects, the model you initially referenced is virtually identical MINUS the effects.
Well I would say get a compressor, but the mixer also has built in compression. The other processing i'd recommend is basically built into the Driverack. So no nothing else is really needed as far as the PA portion goes - especially for home use.



This would be my biggest concern, i'm not a big fan of Behringer or their quality mainly in the sound. Yes i'll be jumped on, but their IS a difference!



Can't help much on the wireless, I prefer wired & would actually wait until after the FCC changes their frequencies for the new digital tv broadcasts after next Feb. Many wirelesses are not going to work in certain frequency ranges.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to use wired mics. Perhaps use the XM8500. They are for home use so I don't think they will banged up.

So Lonny I read that you use Live Wire cables. Does Guitar Center change the cables anytime for you if they break?

The only thing on the 8500 is the handling noise (as mcky has pointed out) is a lot worse then a good quality mic. Not so much the durability due to banging them up.

Yes all my cables I use have lifetime warranties. They break, take them back to GC (usually don't even need a receipt) for a straight exchange!

In terms of using a powered amplifier instead (I'm also considering the Mackie PMP1012 ), would the Mackie C200 passive speakers be a good choice? I didn't find much discussion about the Mackie passive speakers on the forum. Many talk about the SRM's.

Yes this combo would be just fine. The passive series is the same as the SRM series just without the amps.
