I recommend flying into Anchorage and renting a small motorhome
(ABC Motorhomes are really good) and exploring the state!!!
Go down the Kenai Peninsula, go up north to Denali...and ABC used to include a free pass that you can camp at any state or federal park for free
(there are TONS of them!).

Or fly into Fairbanks, take the train down to Anchorage and stop for a few days in Denali! Alaska Airlines are partners with ERA Airlines which are also the company that does the helicopter tours around Denali...it is spectacular beyond words!

Or you can go the other way, they fly to Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta etc...depends on what kind of trip you guys want to do!

I personally recommend flying to Alaska and renting the small motorhomes. I have done this several times, and for the price you pay for a hotel and rental car in the summer, you end up dollars ahead doing the motorhome. Plus there are tons of BEAUTIFUL places off the beaten path that you can go! The people that live in all the small little places around there are wonderful, and if you go to Anchorage you MUST go eat at Gwennie's! And the Captian Cook Campground on the Kenai is absolutely gorgeous!

Mexico is my place to go. In Chicago we have Apple Vacations (don't know if they are local or nationwide) but they book you on chartered flights to all kinds of places, set you up with hotels, excursions, and all sorts of stuff. I highly recommend the all inclusive trip. You can get a week in Mexico including airfare, hotel, transportation to and from the hotel, All the food and drinks you can handle for a pretty nice price. It is usually around a thousand bucks for a nicer hotel for 7 days. I figure I would spend that thousand on drinks alone in about 5 days. Airfare would probably be 5-600 round trip, and an american hotel is 100 plus per night. YOu can't go wrong down there. A few years ago I went to Ixtapa (smaller, lower key town) and stayed 6 nights. Airfare, 5 apple (star) hotel on the beach with a pool and 5 restaurants, a few bars and all kinds of activities, and oh yeah, all you can eat 24 hours a day, and all you can drink and it only cost me $799. One more thing, this hotel also added all you can golf. Just pay for your cart. You can't beat it.

Go south my friends (but it is very hot this time of year).

Vacation? Think malaysia. It cost you less vacationing in most 3rd world counties than you staying at home. :D

Without a doubt Cuba. Great resorts, beaches, and very friendly people. Did I mention great rum and cigars. Love the old cars. And with the Castro regime near the end, it will flourish.

i agree mexico is great Cancun a must for partiers, but just about anywhere there you can find a bargain plan. i also recommend las vegas you need to at least go out there once. it can be done on a budget depending on how much you wanna gamble. tho there is so much to see there you don't have to gamble at all and hotel & flight combo pkgs. are readily available...but man i would love the alaska by motorhome route.....heres a couple of links to some travel sites....cal

I would love to go, being a car guy and all, but the US gummint considers going to Cuba a crime. I would take a few car parts with me.

i will be in alaska next month, so I will let you all know how it was! going down 3 rivers in gates of the arctic national park above coldfoot. in thailand right now, soon to cross into cambodia after visiting chiang mai and koh chang. hard to find good western karaoke here but i've been trying! one place had some but the sound system was terrible. maybe I'll have to go down to maylasia if we can't find something soon!

it is cheap here and I'll bet cambodia is cheaper.
