Yeah they still do. They are becoming obsolete though. They are also MUCH cheaper than they used to be.

I keep a back up at home just in case there is an accident, but I know in the future it will be more difficult to find them. Ebay always seems to be the way to go for vintage equipment. I wouldn't be surprised to see them there.

For cheap CRT monitors, try Craigslist. There's always someone trying to unload CRTs for 10-20 dollars a pop.

Hell I have seen tv's being thrown away at the dump lately. The one I use used to have a little section for tv elimination. That little section has grown in the last year to a VERY large section & the attendants say they always test electronics for the hell of it & said 1/2 the time most of them still work!

I bought a 17 inch crt at a thrift shop for $10.00 last week.. I was in Phoenix and my sons system had crashed the monitor..

The price range was $6.98 to $12.98..

Dirt cheap I say..

I generally use in house tv's if I am at a bar.

But if not: I use either a 42" LCD it was $700 or a 10 ft screen with a 3000 lumen DLP HD Projector.

Tv's are cheap.

Try your local pawn shop. I see 13' CRT monitors in my area go for 20 to 30 bucks all day long.

we have a small tv that we picked up at a pawn shop for $20 two years ago. It has fallen out of the back of the van face first onto concrete and fires up every time. It has been accidentally placed too close to speakers and colors get messed up, then one day you turn it on and it is fine. Most people don't mind it ... and there is always a large screen somewhere for those who don't like it. I've never had anyone complain. Gotta love a tv that falls on concrete and comes up smiling.

Using speaker boxes to hold the monitors is an awesome idea!

Do any of you guys ever set up monitors behind the singer so the audience can read/sing along or is that a bad idea? I'm thinking its a bad idea because its the singers turn in the spotlight, not the audience, but I could be wrong.

We talked about this one quite a bit:

In general, the opinion of the group is that it is a good idea. Some differ, but a solid majority likes the audience to see the lyrics.

Thanks for the link mckyj57. I found it to be very informative. I think I'm going to do a monitor on each front corner of the stage and a single large monitor behind the singer after reading the responses. :)
