We have had dreams for years about having karaoke reunions, conventions and making Greeley Colorado the karaoke capitol of the the world. I have not been in a venue that would hold 3 or 400 for a few years but now the possibility looms.
Need suggestions or ideas on promoting internet or otherwise on making this happen. Greeley is a small friendly town in mid America. You will come as a stranger and say farewell to many friends. If you can envision this and have ideas please PM or contact via web site.
Thanks,
Ollie, Cabaret Karaoke

I guess anyone can promote themselves as anything, but somehow I don't envision Greeley, Colorado as ANY kind of "capitol" - let alone one for karaoke.
A town where entertainment and good times are already part of the city's identity? Sure...Las Vegas, New Orleans, even Branson, MO.
But making "Shorty's Grill" the nexus of the karaoke universe? I don't think it'll catch on, but good luck!

The key is to have festival with a trade show and have lots of manufactures etc set up booths where the can promote and sell their products. Get them involved sponsoring events and have them help you promote the festival. There are lots of companies making big money on karaoke always looking for a way to promote themselves. A good plan gives a lot of exposure to them so they in turn give your event exposure. A good festival will have every little thing sponsered by some company so they can put their name on it. Don't forget to see if local motels will agree to and promote special rates for your visitors. Even the signs can be sponsored with someones company logo on it.
Set it with multiple stages for different types of music and contests to draw and please singers (singers come to sing).
Seek out and talk to the planers of other karaoke events in other parts of the country and planners of other types of events in your local community. Think and plan big and you might just make it work.

Sounds like a great idea, and why not Greeley. Loved your post of the 4th of July parade, but have one question?? That steer in the parade was just looking for a piggy-back ride ‘cause he was tired of walking right?.... Seeing all those horses, cattle and cowboy hats really made me homesick for the west.

Dan in various businesses I have promoted events. My ex was a belly dancer and we setup booths for all the major CB manufactures in Cheyenne. We put on a nightly belly dance show and the second night we had overflowing cowboys off the ranch. We finished the year at the Brighton county fair and had 5000 in attendance.
With High Country Games we hosted the annual AMOA dart leagues in Vegas. I attended a couple of eng conventions in Vegas. Shove Vegas!!!! When you want to get out of the rat race relax and get a different attitude then come to Greeley.

Jim's a genious ! I agree the way to go is with venders. Most all the conventions in Chicago do it this way. Your expenses are paid by the both fees you charge to hold such an event. Although I would love a karaoke convention here I wouldn't recommend it. Chicago is one of the most expensive cities to do a convention. Most of our convention business has moved to Las Vegas.

Ollie sounds like a great Idea, somethings to consider
Hotel/Motel accomodations
How close is the nearest airport to Greeley?
Is it a HUB for any airlines and how would the airfare be going to Greeley?

The accommodations would be a lot less than most large towns. Slow down and smell the roses!!!! Out here we would more than likely giving a ride...

I guess the first reason would be because all these problems with drunks and rotation and problems we solved long ago. We do not have those problems. The next thing would be western hospitality without all of the animosity shown here. Here there are people that will invite you to stay in their homes for the visit.. I do not insult your area Why in the hell do you want to insult mine? You have a problem I don't.

Ollie, no diss to your town. I was stating a dispassionate and analytical business opinion based on whether a significant number of people (let alone companies to pay for exhibit space) would come to a town of about 90,000 people which is at least an hour's drive from a major airport for ANY kind of convention.
Certainly if you want to have a meet and greet of friends from the board...sure, why not? karyoker @ Tue Jul 22, 2008 8:21 am wrote: You have a problem I don't. No problem here.
