Has anyone ever tried one of the MP3+G download sites for their digital music?? Anyone suggest one site over another?? Are these tracks from one of the CDG manus, or are they made exclusively for the site? How's the quality??

I could be wrong, but as far as know there aren't any legal MP3G download sites.

tricerasoft appears to be a legal download site and so does select a track

Tricerasoft.com
SelectATrack.com

SelectATrack has many good hard to find tracks, but is not cheap (4$ a song). But they are worth it if your singers really want that odd Bowie song....
Tricerasoft is about 1$ a song in bulk. They sell a lot of zoom which are in general high quality tracks. Sunfly is a bit more hit/miss but many are good.

Both companies tend to concentrate on Karaoke tracks made in the UK where copyright laws regarding Karaoke are different, and more tollerant than the US. (although tricerasoft seems to sell some US made tracks too From Panorama)

CDGDownloads.com is another download site that seems to border on being legal in my opinion. I have my suspicions as they do not tell you the manufacturer of the songs they are selling you in advance. It has been around for a while and not shut down yet so it may be legit. They are associated with CAVS, and that system has spent much time near the edge of legality.

THey charge a bit under 1$ a song as well...
For some of the songs I have bought from them the tracks were defective...

Karaoke.com is an apparently legit company that seems to be planning a Karoke download site.
but as of now it does not appear active yet.

Zoom also sells their tracks via download, either on their site, or a UK site... can't remember which.

Opera-Karaoke.com is also a new site that offers downloadable MP3+G tracks. Each song is $2.99, or you can get unlimited downloads for a yearly subscription. And the quality is quite impeccable.

Since you are new to this site I will tell you that many on this site are attempting to run their karaoke shows as legally[/quote] as possible, and strongly frown upon file shareing.

Any discussion of how to do such activity is frowned upon.

If it wasn't just an opera site, this would make me leary of their legality. Pay per song is paying the copyright holder (provided the site is legal to begin with), with an unlimited subscription, one could literally just download an entire catalog for relatively cheap. Not much return going to any copyright holders.

One thing I forgot to mention about the Karaoke-Opera.com site; most (if not all) of their songs fall in the public domain realm, therefore there are no copyright issues, per se. However, using the backing tracks is still subject to ALL licensing requirements pertaining to use in any and all performances.

No U.S. song falls into public domain until 70 years have passed since the authors death. Thats death of the author not publication of the song. That means practically nothing (useful) is in the public domain. And according to pdinfo.com even that right to public domain may be gone.

From pdinfo.com

"Any Song or Musical Work Published in 1922 or Earlier is in the Public Domain in the USA.
No Sound Recordings are PD in the USA due to a tangled complexity of Federal and State Law.
Musical works enter the Public Domain 70 years after the death of the author in most other countries. "

I must disagree (with the statement that there is very little useful within the Public Domain). I can probably rattle off a couple of hundred songs that would be great karaoke additions (if only karaoke manufacturers would realize this). There are, however, quite a few songs which people don't realize are public domain that almost every kj has in their library.

I just saw this reply pop up, so I'm going to assume you want me to name 3 songs.

Ok.

Ave Maria (Not to say that it is a real karaoke show-stopper)
Danny Boy (you'd be surprised how often I've heard this sung for St. Patrick's Day)
Happy Birthday (traditional version)
Santa Lucia
Star Spangled Banner (4th of July shows)
Almost every traditional Christmas carol known to human-kind

Should I go on?
