Hoster 4.0 DOES require both IE7 & Windows Media Player 11/12. I think that is what he was referring to.

In the hoster song search. If you are seatching by artist. "strait" is all thats needed. by title any part of the name is all thats needed. Most people try typing in the full title. and if they put in a word like "leaving" and the title actually has "leavin" in it, then it doesnt find it.
Thats not knowing how to use the program correctly.
There are too many people here that hear the word "MTU" and automaticlly jump in and slam them, and every program they make. it isnt deserved. I use all of their programs and they work as they should. If they didnt, I would buy a program to do what I wanted it to.

If you type in "strait", you will get every George Strait and Dire Straits song. That is not what I want -- I don't want to have to scroll through a hundred songs to find the one I want. Quote: Thats not knowing how to use the program correctly.
That's uncalled for, since it is actually you not knowing what you are talking about. The Hoster search is clearly substandard, and I presume they will be addressing it in the next version. I think there are quite a few people who are defensive about their choice of a program.
I bought MTU hoster when it was the best on the market. It no longer is.

Nobody using Siglos from Power Karaoke?
Of all the player software I tried, I found it to be the most user friendly. Not sure how it stacks up in terms of features, but it certainly does more than my disc machine!
I tried out their creator software too, didn't like it much. Anyone know of another good karaoke CDG creator software?

First, let me state, I don't own any of the softwares, but will be making the jump to one here soon. I do have a vista laptop and will be getting another one. So I'm reading all of this, very closely. I have other MTU software, I don't like the hoster program and will not go with that because of the change in file format. I am not big on that. I want the software to read mp3+g, I have some of my music backed up and it's all in that format in folders and zipped up. I got it all running on my current laptop with winamp, but don't do me much good...everything is zipped, so if I want to use it..I have to un-zip it. I am very interested in PCDJ w/ the Karaoke plug in. I've read some horror stories on it's compatability with vista on their website forums...so I'm waiting for that to clear up.
How do you laptop users do you back-up. Do you have it all zipped up?
When mcky says:
"If you type in "strait", you will get every George Strait and Dire Straits song."
That is exactly how I would expect the software to work and would want it to work, am I missing something? MrD

Yes, of course you would expect it to work. So would I. But that is hundreds of tracks, and paging through them to find one is time-consuming and error-prone.
I want to be able to type "strait al ex" and get "All My Exes Live In Texas" only. You can do that with any hosting software except MTU Hoster.

With hoster, I would type in 'live in texas' - I believe it is probably the only title with those 3 words in it. I have learned how to use the search function to get around this.

That's fine if you know the precise title of the song. But my neither my singers nor me always seem to know that.....All my exes is my example because you could type in "All my ex's" and not get all versions in Hoster. With "strait all ex" you are going to get everything. Also, if you were to type in "Angel" for the song angel, you are going to get lots of stuff, whereas "angel lion" will get only Lionel Richie's song.

Their site says explicitly: Quote: Video Hoster does not require any other programs to import your karaoke discs, show your lyrics, run your shows, or change key. It does NOT use a USB security "hardware dongle". It has a true Database to automatically index and find your imported songs, over 1,000,000 if you ever have them. All features are fully integrated; fully supported by MTU who has the highest rating in the industry for customer support. Unlike other software on the market, Video Hoster is completely self contained. No need for other converters, players, or vendors. All you need is Video Hoster!

Thanks for that. I have just tried out them all now (well Power Paraoke, KBS & Dart). I got to say, I don't like any of them. Dart seemed to be the best of a bad bunch, but it just crashed on me. I'll keep experimenting.

If you already have all your files in mp3 format, then Hoster will read them. Even zipped files.

Ah, but it then converts them to KMA format for storage and use. That means that if I want to use two different programs on my laptop -- which I would love to be able to do, as Hoster is nice for some things -- then I need to store two copies of the file. That takes more disk space than I have.

Guess I never understood the reason for needing 2 different programs to run karaoke.

I like Hoster for practice and prepared vocal sets, and CompuHost for a normal karaoke gig. Also, Hoster is nice for playing a customer disk.

What specificially did you have a problem with.
The basic syncing of words is done with either the space bar or the mouse click. and then you go and edit it to fine tune it.
I've build about twenty with this program, and love the ability to bring in picture graphics like the DK tracks.

I recently purchased Compuhost and Sax n dotty.
I like the bells n whistles on the compuhost but dislike the song search pop up screens and that dongle
sax n dotty pretty simple & easy to use. Just need a volume level for the audio bits.

What I Like about having the dongle is if my main computer crashes, I can continue the show with my backup without having to buy two copies of the program, just move the dongle.

Yes, me too. You can have multiple copies of MTU Hoster, too, but you have to pick which two exact computers. And if you want to change which they are, you have to ask them for permission. Last time I did that, they took a week to respond.
Sax N' Dotties I don't like at all. They have a popup for singer name with an extremely lame key changer control. You have to re-type the singer name every time, too. The main thing I dislike about S&D is the use of Winamp. I have seen the key changer not work on S&D more times than I can count.
