Welcome aboard !

I just went through the same dilemma with my daughters laptop. I don't use one for karaoke, so you may get a better response in the tech forum, but from what I can tell these are the major differences.

Mac -

No worries about viruses, spyware, malware etc... You don't have to have any protection for these.

PCs are now mainly Vista. You can still get a copy of windows XP and have installed instead though. Vista has shown to have a lot of problems.

Mac also takes some getting used to because the formats are all different from pc, so if you've never used one there is a learning curve.

PC - Slightly cheaper still although Mac has come down a lot in price.

Good luck with your decision. I ended up getting my daughter a Dell.

Welcome aboard. I have me a PC with Vista and Compuhost with no problems so far. I will keep my fingers crossed. In my opinion, the vista problems are with compatability and if you get one with Vista, make sure your software is certified compliant or whatever they do. XP seems to be popular here on KS because of reliability, but it won't be long until they stop supporting it (updates from Microsoft to stop hackers) so you may be stuck going to Vista anyway. Macs are great but I don't know anything about their software for Karaoke, but a DJ friend of mine in the Chicago clubs totes his Mac everywhere and tears it up. Good luck

Hey doc that's good to hear you've had no problems with Vista. When I ordered my daughters pc from Dell I asked if I could have Windows XP installed instead of Vista and they said no. They don't use it anymore.

Yeah. XP is the old stuff as far as it goes. You can still get it from some of the bargain manufacturers. I understand that places like Tiger Direct and some discount vendors have bought up much of it and still sell xp, but the concerns are the support you will get from Microsoft in the future. They stop supporting, and updating patches for their products after a few years. Also, all of the new software is going to be written for Vista so it is probably good to just bite the bullet and go with it. I know many here won't agree, but Vista has been around for a while now and most of the problems are being fixed with time. It just seems like the old software didn't work too good with vista in some instances. Unfortunately we are stuck in a world of change and we can't continue to use old software with new operating systems, and vice versa, old systems with new software. They have us right where they want us. Enjoy your Dell, I love mine.

Thanks for your input folks...for now I will go with the PC and Vista. I do agree that the PC companies got us by the gonads and well I would imagine like as usual the software companies have to keep up their end to make their products compatible with new operating systems if they wish to stay ahead of the sales game. Maybe I could upgrade my older Toshiba for now and keep it as a backup just in case. Cheers.

That's recent.. I bought a Dell with Vista, and Vista removed the sound card driver..

(Dell was trying to cut corners) I returned the laptop, and received XP on the replacement..

Now I have a Toshiba with Vista.. Zero problems..

(I use Sax and Hooters)
