Hi all I'm totally new to Karaoke.
I just randomly built a system which works. But when I go high pitch voice they
system gives me hizzing noise over the high end.

I have an old panasonic receiver and speakers, I recently bought a new mixer which receives signal from my laptop, coz all my mtvs are in the laptop.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the hizzing noise? I tried to adjust the mixer,
and that didn't help much... I don't know if it comes from the home theater system, but when i play cd using a cd player, it works perfect.

I would like to spend up to $500 on replacing any components of the system, please shoot me with your advice. Thank you in advance.

Tony

Hi pitch vocal normally also mean louder vocal . I suspect that you may be clipping the mic channel. Try pulling the mic away when you sing at a louder vol (ie hi pitch) . Also you may want to reduce the gain of your mic input.

Um, no. The poster doesn't specify vocals as the high end problem. The factis that no home theater system- no matter what it's supposed specs, is built to handle karaoke. It is my opinion that the system is being overdriven.

If you wish to sing karaoke at home, a system built for that purpose is required

Problem here is you are singing through a home stereo system. These are not meant to handle live vocals. They are geared to reproduce compressed music like movies, cd's, etc. Live vocals are completely uncompressed & will tax the system especially when driven at higher volumes - which may not even be very high to your ears, but the vocals will come through to the speakers as high because they are not processed like the rest of the music - which is why regular cd's sound fine. You would be better off completely separating your karaoke system from your home theater/music center. Get a separate system for the karaoke or at the VERY least get a separate set of speakers for you stereo.
Most stereo receivers have an A/B speaker selector. Find out the ohms rating of the amp for the speakers - typically they are 8 ohms. Then you need to find out what the power rating into the ohms rating is & try to match you speakers accordingly. But again the best result will be to get an entirely separate system for karaoke.

If you have A/B speakers, look at getting a pair of MTX TP112. They cost $90-$125 each in the US. It only takes 110 w/ch to drive them well, and they are true PA speakers. They sound good, too -- I use them with a Pioneer amp.

Just to clarify: You only hear it when you sing high pitches? Are you sure it isn't there all the time , maybe softer. :D

Try a ground adapter(50cents, goes from 3 prongs to 2) on the power cord of your computer, and see if that helps. If that helps, you can spend a bit more on a ground loop illiminator, because some people feel the ground adapter can be dangerous.
Next BORROW SOMEONE"S SHURE SM FIFTY EIGHT MICROPHONE(CAPS IS MESSED UP ON THIS POST) AND SEE IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE COULD BE THE MIC ILLIMINATE THINGS ONE AT A TIME ON OTHER POSSIBILITIES

I too had a problem initially with a home karaoke using the Home theater system.
As Lonman pointed out...voices can have a LOT of dynamic range..my mike was overdriving the system.
So..now when I run the system for Karaoke...
I turn the Home theater audio to near the highest level...
I then make sure the Karaoke music level is low (so that the music is at a good listening level)...then..
I set the microphone level (starting low then moving up until it too is in the "comfortable" listening range)

Using this approach my system audio never clips or distorts (and I am a loud singer).

My neighbor set his sytem up (again using home theater equipment as the amplifier) and he initially had the same clipping issue..we adjusted his audio like I did mine and all was well.
Good Luck and good fun!

One more thing...
When you have finished Karaoke for the night...
Remember to turn down the system audio before you switch it back to the normal audio (TV DVD etc) or you will wake the dead and perhaps fry your speakers.
