I received an email from karaoke warehouse today advertising this Chartbuster disc, with this disclaimer in the ad.

Quote:
This Chartbuster disc has not been pressed in a pressing plant, but in a CD burner using a CDR disc and it might not have been produced to standards comparable to pressing plant pressings of CDs. Consequently, this disc may not play in all karaoke players. There may be other unknown effects of owning a CDR disc which we cannot be held responsible for such as disc longevity or durability. Chartbusters is not offering any refund or warranty (nor are we) if it does not play or last as long as a pressing plant pressed disc. Please be aware of this before you purchase.

Are these safe to buy or are you really taking a risk?

Very interesting. A while back, I made a post about how I would get artifacts or “confetti” with Chartbuster disks after a bit of use. I just recently bought the Country Hits 2008 3-disk pack. These were graphically terrible the first time I used the original disks. To me, it’s embarrassing. I think CB produces very high quality tracks, plus they often put out songs that the other top brands don’t. It just doesn’t make sense that they would cut corners on the final step of pressing the disks. There would be a lot more CB in my collection if it weren’t for these graphics problems. I’m currently loading all my disks onto a computer, so maybe that will solve some of these issues.

If you're talking about "confetti" being the the way some the graphics can continually stick to the screen if the disc has a slight skip, etc, then the GOOD news is that they've recently updated the way they do their graphics & scrolling. The graphics that sometimes can stick are now wiping clean from screen to screen (At least on the newest Pop disc I was checking out). Turned the knob on my JVC player to rewind a song while it was playing and, poof, it went back to normal when the "next" screen came up after that. Go figure.

The new cdr's seem to be playing normal in my JVC & RSQ players...so far.

I never really experienced the graphic problems that are often mentioned with Chartbuster at least on the Pioneer players I run. The JVC would exhibit them a little more often & before MTU upgraded their software for importing with most cd/dvd drives, there would be some graphic errors upon import.

I find it odd that CB would release this one particular disc as a cdr only.

It looks like all the recent "new" discs are cdr....pop & country. A couple of the newer pop discs, and the July 08 country disc (#60379) are in that format, I believe.

I have experienced confetti lately on POP Hits discs.

So they are telling you it's a burned disc. Shouldn't be a problem if the burn speed was low and a decent quality disc was used. If it's the cheapest disc they can buy and i'm sure it is, they may be a problem.

my advice would be to

a. burn a copy of it as you can
b. rip it to a hard drive before you damage it.

If that's the case I personally am going to start shying away from CB. Something isn't clicking there.

Cheaper to burn copies in house than out source them to someone else.

I have volumes 1 thru 6 of the CB Essentials SCDG, and a few of the regular Chartbuster CDGs, and never had a problem with this ‘confetti’ thing they are talking about. I wasn’t even aware that a brand name would issue their music in a CDR format until I seen this. Lonnie, did you research this and find that this disc only comes in CDR? All my music is on an external HD, so if I could rip it once without problems?? I don’t know, the whole thing sounds risky, as neither the seller, or Chartbuster gives you any kind of guarantee. No not really, it would actually cost them more to do the volume they would need to do, they would need to thermal print the labels which jacks the cost up more per disc (also anyone who has ever bought a custom disc with a thermal printed label can tell you first hand not to get it wet on the label or you won't have a label anymore), plus would take longer to get the product to market & yield an inferior product.
It costs pennies per disc to have them pressed and professionally labeled in bulk.

I haven't researched any further. But looking on other websites (including CB own), this disc wasn't even supposed to be released until today, wonder how Karaoke Warehouse got it a day early.
It is now available today (it wasn't yesterday) through CB own site & karaoke.com and neither state it is a cdr.

My guess is that Chartbuster has a deal to release the songs to certain resellers so that they can produce early copies.

My guess is that someone bought discs CB60381 & CB60382 and made themselves a bootleg copy of CB60380 from the tracks on those two CDGs and decided to cut out the middle man. Just maybe? :?:
