Steven, I signed up for an account there and tried a few different songs just to see what kind of program you're dealing with to record. It's a bit hard there to get a good music to vocal balance (imo)...... way different from using a multi track recording on your desktop.

I'll look ya up over there, so's that I can leave ya some fluffy comments now and again and boost your morale.

(kidding... i wont fluff ya.... but i listen to your subs from time to time over there, and so i figured i'd see what kind of recorder you're dealing with)

It is, in a way, better than multi tracking. You sure don't need all the bother with changing FX, and playing with the volumes, yada-yada, not while you're concentratingn on just singing, rather than mixing skills... plus, you can actually watch the lyrics as the song is playing- something I can't do on my desktop while multi tracking. (not within the same program)

Right, I don't want to learn to home engineer, I want to learn to sing via "point and shoot" settings... Once you learn how to set your mixer and soundcard it's easy to get a balance, but it initially takes tweaking..

It's an even tougher situation balance-wise for me considering I'm USB and the site isn't USB friendly, I by-pass the soundcard and go direct using the mixer.. All my settings and mixer are USB.. I can balance things easily assuming I were to record on my laptop but I like this surround sound desktop system better.. Yeah, there's a trick to balancing your backings and mic level there. For a non-karaoke person such as myself the library is a good thing

No Fluff, Fluff doesn't teach me or tell me anything ! Everything I do can tolerate improvement.. Yet even if something sounds good, I need to know what fluke accidently made it decent.. I need to know what's what, need to know what is so-so, and bad, but more importantly WHY stuff is good or bad.. I can't tell, I need help

Take a joke...... the fluff comment was a joke:)

Quit sweatin' bullets Kappy, I wont. I've never fluffed ya yet.

I gotta admit, the simplicity of the recording there (wow, one click, sing, save, you're done!!) ..... and the choice of songs that I don't have on cdg that I'd forgotten all about and never gotten to try, well.... I'm addicted. Hahaha

I'm on numero quatro already;)

For me, it would never be like SS, I'd never scout around commenting and looking to make pals, but it's an excellent place to practice new songs.

Trying to figure out though:

Record level: Your vocal only, or the actual loudness of the whole mix when done?

Music volume: In your headphones, or in the mix?

I'm a bit louder on vox it seems like. (than what I'd do if multi tracking) But hey, I'm still just playing around with new songs.

It's going to change from song to song too.. There are desciptions and details regarding how to set your audio equipment and soundcard settings. Run the wizard too.

Haha, I just made one discovery.

I thought, since the song is THERE, that you could stop the record process when you were done "singing".... hmmm, guess not. My last one I cut off a few seconds of the ending music. Hell, I probably did it to all of them, haven't listened back to them yet.

I'm still figgering out the 2 volume buttons, I think I got it tho.

(what a retart, I'm acting like I've never recorded before)

But geez, they have a lot of songs that I don't have in my collection.

Straight from the Urban Dictionary buddy:

retart

?
Retarded spelling of 'retard'
v
Microwaving an already toastered pastry, such as a Toaster Strudel or Pop Tart.
n
Someone who has had sex so many times, they have transcended "tart".

LMAO

Kappy-

Not going to go into some big ol' critique here. (for one, I kinda listened in a hurry, as I need to go get ready for work)

But the Elvis song... my first impression is the best I've heard you do as far as your voice being loud enough and sounding like you're singing with more confidence. That's a good style for you I think.

(Or, perhaps it's just that you should always record naked?)

Yeah, that is my naturalist voice quality. Nothing covered

I redid it. Put the other rendition exists but it's in private. Probably since I linked it here those that attempt to hear at can do-so even though It's no longer public. I don't like to have too many renditions in public simultaneously, it just doesn't look good.

Take two
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandli ... y/b4c058bb

Here's the only difference (besides time of day, day, mood, etc)

Second take is with bass turned up about halfway, first time bass was way way down, likely 2 tops. THe microphone I use is trebly too.. Why do I need to cut the bass on my voice so significantly to get a stronger timbre ? Treble is up to about 8 and mid around 6 both times..

Does the second attempt sound too contrived ? Too BS'like ? Seriously, I need to know... Was the first more natural ? I can't hear these things.

Btw brutal honesty genuinely wanted, If I'm improving that's good, it means time to lay into me even more so I can get better, without tough honest critiques I'd never have improved at all ! Just stick to the attempts at my learning to sing though. Not about my funny looking torso, crappy personality, or funny looking puss.. It's too late in life to improve any of that.

Hmm, I must be getting old, first hairy palms, not to mention very poor eyesight, now It appears people are typing morse code to me. Anyway back to the microphone, I've got something to polish !
