Plug in the external, copy the files from your laptop to the external..

(Move them, not just copy)

Then place the rest on the external too..

since you are using a new external drive you might have to import the songs again into your karaoke program.

Which ones require that? I've moved songs from drive to drive before with no probs?

As long as the drive letter designation and folder structure stays the same there would be no need to reimport but remember he will be moving files from his internal hard drive (most likely the "C" drive) to an external drive, which will definately have a different drive letter designation.

Unless he is running Compuhost... Compuhost will find the files regardless of "drive letter designation"! However the folder structure must be the same as originally cataloged by Compuhost.

In other words, if the file is originally cataloged as..
"F:\Karaoke Songs\SGB1016-03 - Whatever - Whatever.zip" it will be found even if the drive designation changes...
ie "G:\Karaoke Songs\SGB1016-03 - Whatever - Whatever.zip"

So does MTU, however you do have to point the program to the drive & folder. Moving from C to F to D, doesn't matter, as long as the program knows where the files are.

Lonnie, can you please explain that in detail? In the past, using MTU, if you move files to another drive (or even to another folder) meant you have to rebuild the database reference. It took a long time to do it depends on the song.

Can you show me which menu I have to go to "point" to it? I guess I have been doing it all wrong. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I believe a rebuild of the database is necessary, but what I meant was you didn't have to reimport like stated - may have misunderstood that statement.
When I do new discs at home, I transfer them on a flash drive to work. You can actually use them without rebuilding if you go in through the hard drive import on the main screen & just select the song if you didn't have time to rebuild before a show.
