You never know when a patron will turn on you. I had a guy who it was maybe his 3rd or 4th time coming in turn on me like cybil. He came up to sing complimenting me how I run a show and how nice I am. He gets to the music break of his song and whistles into the mic as loud as he can. As I grab for the volume the crowd winces in pain. I turn to him and say "that's not cool, please don't do that again". He was very upset the crowd showed such displeasure at what he'd done. So then for what ever reason yells " F#ck " over the mic. I turn the music down and his mic off and tell him we don't swear over the mic unless it is in the song then I continued the song for him. I let him finish the song because he was new and had always been super nice to me every other time he'd come in.

He finishes the song singing beautifully. Then turns to me and says very angrily - "I have a system at home just like this and know what I'm doing". I say," If you are going to do what you did maybe you should stay at home".

woops ! I shouldn't have done that.

He grabs the mic, so I turn it off. He then continues to yell at the audience from the stage telling everyone the owner has turned all the patrons and employees into "F"ing Jerks! He continued swearing and cursing at everyone refusing to leave the stage.

Long story short the patrons and the owner walk him to the door.

Amazingly this was a nondrinker !

It just goes to show you that you can never know how mentally stable a person is and drinking isn't the only thing that makes people jerks.

Usually the angry singers will just take it out on me. Usually because I didn't give them the "respect" they felt they deserved by letting them sing at the time of their choosing. I've never had one take it out on the whole place.

I didn't realize this downside aspect of being a KJ until I started doing it. I've seldom been yelled at my whole life and it took awhile until I adjusted to it. Fortunately 99% of the singers are friendly types or else I wouldn't last at this.

And I'll bet that most treat you right too Babs.

Jerks are always jerks. The sober ones just hide it better.

I have come to realize that there are many mentally disturbed people walking among us. Some are just strange, some are whacked out nuts ready to go off. I've seen and met some people that look normal, but are far from being normal. You can't always tell by looking at someone, many times you can't.

There are crazy people have drivers licenses and big, dangerous, motorized weapons. I have encountered lots of rudeness, overly aggressive people, greedy selfish people that will screw you with no conscience and many other types. The world has many good people, but there are a lot of angry and nasty folks out there, it's a real shame.

The more people you come in contact with, the greater the likelihood that you will meet some of these strange or deranged individuals.

Karaoke draws these kinds of people. The type who always wanted to be stars but are a day late and a couple of dollars short... so now they think karaoke is their shot at the glory days... and when they don't get the warm and fuzzy reception that they crave they go off like wild animals...

Bab's I'm proud of you! You handled the whole thing like a pro. You shut him down and gently laid down the rules.After you did He stepped over the line and you cut him off.

There are ticking time bombs everywhere out there. This guy was one of them.

Yeah the mentally disturbed.....gotta love 'em. Had a guy tonight that used to come in under a different name, wrote up a slip with this new name. Told me a story how he had to change his name because of people that want to kill him and he is now in a witness protection program............DUH, that's why you come into a place where you hang out! I just smiled & said OH!

Usually when people get out of hand and I have to put the law down they are apologetic after. All gets forgiven and we have a good time. I didn't see this one coming at all.

The vast majority of people I've come across as a karaoke host are pleasant & easy going, but I have run into knuckleheads like the one Babs described. A few of them were veterans fresh off the Iraq/Afghan front; I'm curious whether this will be a trend in coming years.

I'm sorry - but for any man to act like that in front of a lady is downright disgusting!
